Concealed Carry Suggestions for a Small(ish) Frame?

Howdy,

I'm looking to purchase my first handgun to replace the Beretta 85 that I have. While it is a good firearm, I find that it is a bit too wide for me to carry. I'm 6'2" and about 160 lbs, so a near full-sized pistol like the 85 isn't going to be concealable without a jacket. Being from the South, you can see why that is a problem.

I've taken a look at the Taurus PT 140 and 740 and they seem to garner positive reviews and could be more easily concealed. I would have also loved to have seen the Smith & Wesson M&P-40 Shield, but those are being back-ordered like crazy. However, I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some input or suggestions on sub-compacts, preferably chambered in at least .40 S&W. Firearms in the $300-400 range and close to that are what my budget restricts me- and large hands, as well as preference, pretty much rule out "micro" pistols.

I also know this isn't really part of this category: but any holster suggestions are welcomed as well.

I've got arthritis and medium sized hands. I carry a Glock 26 or 19. For your requirements, I'd check out a Sig Sauer P250. It's a modular system where the trigger group & firing mechanism can be moved from a sub, to compact, to full size frame. They're chambered in 9mm, .40S&W, and .45ACP and here locally or online I see them for @$380-390. I've seen a vid from a trade show with the FS & SC frame .40 in the same box for I think @$750 w/2 mags for each frame.

Good things are worth waiting for. I carry the M&P Shield in 9mm in a IWB by Theis Holster. Works great. Just ordered a Desantis pancake style OWB holster. We'll see how that works.

I have a Taurus 709 and a Ruger SR40c.....both are good options. The Taurus is a bit smaller and lighter, but not much.

Well, here I go again... :o) I think it is worth the time to check out the Bersa Thunder Pro 9mm/.40//45 UC (Ultra Compact). Don't let the Ultra Compact fool you, it isn't a micro-gun... Extremely reliable, easy to conceal, and new ones were priced at between 300-400 bucks at the Fort Worth gun show day before yesterday.
