Concealed carry purses...

I'd like some feedback from the ladies on the forum, but am too scared to post in the ladies section...

My wife is looking in to getting a CCW purse. I'm not too keen on the idea because I don't like the thought of her gun not being on her person, thus making it a bit of a liability if someone ever took off with her purse. But as she points out there's no way to carry on her person with quite a few of her work outfits.

It's nice that a lot of the purses seem to have locks on the gun compartments, but this also seems impractical to me because it limits her access if she ever needs it.

So any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations? I am open to feedback from the guys too. :yes4:

Thanks!

PS. Why do so many women's clothes lack or provide only small or fake pockets anyway?!?

See if you can get to a gun show where your wife can "try on"some purses. There are 2 other options she might like to look into. One is the flash bang bra holster and the other is a remora holster (no belt needed). Concealed carry can be a challenge for a woman.

Well, you are so very correct about ladies pockets! That is quite annoying. I own a 'pocket pistol' but sadly it can not be pocket carried or the butt of the pistol will extend above the top of my pocket. To solve this I opted for a Crossbreed Minituck (and a Cb supertuck for larger ccw needs). It can remain well concealed and within my grasp if needed.
As for a purse, I am not really into carrying a bag, however I do own a maxpedition bag that has a zippered compartment at the rear of the bag and is just a overall well built sturdy and comfortable bag to carry, which is well suited for both a male or female. It has plenty of compartments for a wallet, keys, accessories and essentials, while unknowing to others you also have access to self defense. In today's economy and the rise of the potential for crime, not carrying is not a option. Take a look at the maxpeditions and see what you think. Best wishes! C

Take a look at Coronado Leather. They ain't cheap but they're quality and they last. They also have concealment articles for men.

I'd provide one of those linky thingies but neither of my kids will be around till tomorrow and I'm still quite ignorant when it comes to this technological marvel.

Thank you Eagleeyes for your time and effort. I'm just a dinosaur, permanently attached to steel, wood, and leather.

Belly band. belly band. belly band.

Does she go around working with a purse all day long? I know that sales people do, so that would be "ok" not great. If shes at a desk, anything on her hips could get uncomfortable, but very possible to do. A purse gets put away and not where you need it when you need it.... and gets left behind when you go to the bathroom.

Standing? Lots of bending? Scrubs? Casual Business attire? Formal business? Mouse gun? Full size? There are a lot of variables. I need more info! (Im 5'3" so i hafta get creative with concealing a weapon.)

But generally if she works indoors with the a/c on, she can get away with wearing light open front sweaters (passed the hip length) or some nice casual jackets. A small gun behind the hip just fades away.

The issue is mostly that she sometime wears a dress to work. She is 6" tall, and has a Bersa Thunder .380. She's required to wear business casual because she works in a law office. So a lot of her business attire would be fairly well suited to IWB carrying if it weren't fairly form fitting. I'll have to talk to her about it a bit more, but at this point she seems pretty sold on the idea of a CCW purse. She is mostly at her desk, but you do bring up a good point about taking her purse if she goes to the bathroom or has to sit in on a conference or something. It could be pretty awkward to have to take her purse everywhere she goes. I'll have to check and see if she can lock her office door, or just lock her purse in a cabinet or something when she's not in there. She mostly wants to have it at work because they occasionally get crazies coming in, like a mad guy with a pitchfork. One of her bosses carries, and the other two have access to another gun in his office. But there are often times when none of them are there. They gave her access to the office gun when she got her CCW, but it's not really close to her office which is right by the main entrance. It could be that just having it in her office would be fine for work, and having it in her purse is more practical when she's out and about.

With a dress, I'd go with a thigh holster. The bersa thunder is great for that. If shes sitting she can have easy access (and its comfortable), and frankly, if i thought i was a bout to die i'd have no reservations to showing a little leg.

Thigh carry isnt the fastest from concealment to presentation, but its just as fast or faster than getting to your purse thats on the desk, or worst in a locked cabinet/drawer. Plus its with you when you go to the bathroom ;-)

I talked to her some more and suggested getting a couple of different kinds of holsters for different kids of outfits. She's not comfortable with the idea of a thigh holster (which made me sad because I think it would be extremely sexy) and doesn't see having it on her waist as being comfortable when she's at her desk a lot. So she's pretty adamant about getting a ccw purse.

i'd rather stick to just one or two types of holsters if i can help it
i found i can wear a gun belt on my bare skin with a holster clipped to it and fully loaded gun just as comfortable and fast at draw as the belt being in a garment with belt loops
so when i buy my gear it's going to be a good gun belt and a crossbreed supertuck holster......i'm probably going to order a set up like that in early august for myself as my edc gear
i did buy a holstered fanny pack but it's too bulky for my tastes but if i need to wear it on occasion i will
i never did carry a purse much and don't even own one today but i do use regular fanny packs on occasion
