Concealed Carry or Open Carry? Where do you stand?

Where do you stand on the Concealed vs Open carry debate?

I am a young pro-gun member of society with a young family. As of right now I believe the open carry has the potential to solve some of the issues with wanna be thugs. However my opinion and personal thoughts are not as educated as some of our members on these forums. I am very interested to read all about what more established users feel about this debate.

I prefer cc, but I am ok with people that want to open carry. I would rather no one knows I have a pistol on me.

Like foxytwo, I prefer concealed. But there's no debate as far as I'm concerned. I never debate other people's exercise of their own freedoms just because they exercise theirs differently than I exercise mine.

I prefer concealed, and as above, will not criticize someone's preferred method of exercising their rights. Open does offer the potential benefit of deterrence, but I personally don't want to reveal to others that I am carrying. Do whatever is most comfortable and best for your safety.

I firmly believe the Open Carry Orion should be legal. Me I'd rather CC anyway.

I think that in some situations open carry is asking for trouble you also loose the element of surprise

both have a time & place. people should be allowed the choice, and be aware of the pros & cons of each. me, i cc and oc. i typically wont oc in seattle, as it is a lib run hellhole. but around the house, the neighborhood, even in the nearby town, i oc, and have never had a problem.

Another "vote" for CC... I also prefer to carry without people knowing. OC may deter some criminals, but... there's always the chance of scaring some... "interesting" liberal people who will call the cops and tell them only that "There's someone in X Store with a gun!" Plus CC also makes it a bit harder for someone to "pickpocket" your gun, not only because they can't see it, but there's more layers to get through.

Its all on you and your state to what you can do I personally prefer cc like someone just said I rather people not know I had a pistol

Why sahould there even be such a question? Both have their own issues. I prefer to cc, simply because I don't like to advertise that I'm carrying but it can be a pain trying to dress properly to keep it concealed. You can't just put any ol' shirt on you have to always check to see how it's imprinting. Open carry is just that you don't have to worry about whether it's showing or not but you're also telling everybody you're carrying & in certain situatutions the bad guy might see it & take it away from you.

I open carried one time a week after my friend turned 21. We did it merely to get a rise out of people, we were extremely shocked with the complete lack of interest of anyone we passed. One young guy probably in his teens simply asked 'are those real?' To which we replied 'yes' and he just said 'cool' and kept on walking. We carried in public, in a restaurant, in a couple shops. Nobody said a word. My idea of the craziness of constantly being hassled while open carrying was completely gone. However I still conceal just because I prefer to be discrete and there is still a chance I see some anti gun nut who ruins my day by making a scene.

I'd feel right down naked down at Critters Saloon without my colt on my hip. But when grandma wants to go to the city we have to cover them up some. Yep, guns are a way of life around here. Why we even had a shootin about 20 years ago when a cheated on wife tapped her sleeping husband, then turned herself in. But then we still open doors for ladies and say good morning to everyone we meet. Some hide them, some flaunt them, but we all got them.

Do you want to play cards where everyone is looking at your hand? Do you leave your ATM card on top of the ATM machine you use most often, because it is easier for you? (with the pin number written on it?)

I've heard of more concealed carriers having their firearms taken from them than open carriers in the past few years.

Someone before used the cards playing analogy...and here's why it works in favor of open carry.

We are going to play the card game called life. It's just like Texas hold em, except all bets are all in on everything you own, including your life. Now, I open carry a firearm and train regularly, so I have a spades straight flush king high everytime and everyone can see it. It's not the best, but pretty damn good. The river hasn't been flipped yet, but if I get the A of spades, I'll have a royal flush (unknown circumstances). Do you want to sit down at this table with me? Didn't think so, and neither do most of the criminals.

I think that everyone should be able to carry whether concealed or open! I think that choice should be made by an individual and not by the Government! I personally would like to carry open and other times that I would like to carry concealed, depending on circumstances.

Police open carry. Few of us train like LEO's do. The police officer that was killed by the Boston bombers, died when the oldest brother walked up to the officer asking directions. While the officer was giving directions, he took a bullet in the brain. Why did they kill him? They had one gun, and wanted two. He had a gun. The officer was using a triple retention holster they could not figure out, so they ran away without his gun.

So on the days you open carry, best of luck with that.

Every uniformed police officer has a target on his back. They learn that in training, and on the streets. When a citizen open carries , you stand out like a patrol officer does.

Did you ever stop to think, they killed that officer because they were terrorists?
