Where do you stand on the Concealed vs Open carry debate?
Like foxytwo, I prefer concealed. But there's no debate as far as I'm concerned. I never debate other people's exercise of their own freedoms just because they exercise theirs differently than I exercise mine.
Why sahould there even be such a question? Both have their own issues. I prefer to cc, simply because I don't like to advertise that I'm carrying but it can be a pain trying to dress properly to keep it concealed. You can't just put any ol' shirt on you have to always check to see how it's imprinting. Open carry is just that you don't have to worry about whether it's showing or not but you're also telling everybody you're carrying & in certain situatutions the bad guy might see it & take it away from you.
Do you want to play cards where everyone is looking at your hand? Do you leave your ATM card on top of the ATM machine you use most often, because it is easier for you? (with the pin number written on it?)
I've heard of more concealed carriers having their firearms taken from them than open carriers in the past few years.
Someone before used the cards playing analogy...and here's why it works in favor of open carry.
We are going to play the card game called life. It's just like Texas hold em, except all bets are all in on everything you own, including your life. Now, I open carry a firearm and train regularly, so I have a spades straight flush king high everytime and everyone can see it. It's not the best, but pretty damn good. The river hasn't been flipped yet, but if I get the A of spades, I'll have a royal flush (unknown circumstances). Do you want to sit down at this table with me? Didn't think so, and neither do most of the criminals.
Police open carry. Few of us train like LEO's do. The police officer that was killed by the Boston bombers, died when the oldest brother walked up to the officer asking directions. While the officer was giving directions, he took a bullet in the brain. Why did they kill him? They had one gun, and wanted two. He had a gun. The officer was using a triple retention holster they could not figure out, so they ran away without his gun.
So on the days you open carry, best of luck with that.
Every uniformed police officer has a target on his back. They learn that in training, and on the streets. When a citizen open carries , you stand out like a patrol officer does.
