Concealed carry for overweight person

Hello all. I am new to the CC community and this thread. I have yet to get my carry permit, part of the reason being determining how I will carry. I am very large at 400lbs. Most of this weight is in my midsection which presents me with issues on carrying in any fashion the is on the belt.

I have a Taurus PT111 Millenium Pro 9MM. Holsters for this gun are not that plentiful from what I have been able to find, and most of what I find are for belt carrry. A shoulder holster is an option, but I am not sure that I can find one that will fit my large size.

Any suggestions or thought would be greatly appreciated. Of course I do realize that if I were to lose a couple of hundred pounds not would only CC become easier, but my health would improve. But that is a discussion for another time.

Thanks!

Hey DD,

I have that same gun. Fits the hand very nicely.

As a big guy, why not an inside the waistband? Those work for virtually anyone and are pretty comfortable. The Crossbreed Tuck (i.e. Super Tuck, etc.) series are great from what everyone says, or just a little Uncle Mike's Size 0, which is only about $15.

Well I have a very pronounced ROLL that will make IWB fairly uncomfortable, and in my mind, make retrieval of the firearm fairly difficult.

Dave,
I know what you mean. In March I chimed in at 5'8" 286 Lbs. I carried a smaller .380 Bersa in my jacket pocket.
I shoulder holster may also be uncomfortable for you. If you wear sweat pants a lot you may consider a SmartCarry holster/ I use that with sweats or shorts with my Glock & it is very easy to draw. SmartCarry - Concealed Gun Holsters
Charlie Parrott the owner, is a great guy and will make some suggestions & answer all of your questions.

BTW
In all honesty losing large amount of weight is not that difficult but takes dedication.
I am currently at 215 Lbs & working towards 180. Lowered my sugar & eliminated my blood pressure pills How? Easy.

Breakfast:
Special K cereal with some frozen fruit in it 1% milk, V8 juice & 1 hard boiled egg
Lunch :
2 slices of Turkey breast in 2 pieces of romaine lettuce with 2 pickle spears & mustard
Dinner:
1 chicken breast grilled, a vegetable & a small salad.
Of course, everything in moderation.
And water lots of water
I also bicycle 10 miles every other day (I started with 3 miles)

Ok let me go now before I start sounding like Richard Simmons LOL.

Good luck!

Sounds like a pocket gun is in order until you slim back down. It sounds like the pockets should be large enough to hold a PF-11 9mm or any of the Pocket type guns. Im of a mind that nothing under a 9mm but be assured that even the 22.short can dispatch a "Varmit" 4 legged or 2! Good luck with your quest!:pleasantry:

I have a bit of girth myself. I carry SOB with a Springfield 1911 as well as shoulder. Just depends on the occasion or if I'm driving long distance. If I'm carrying my 357 it's with a clam OWB at the 4. With cooler temperatures coming, wearing a untucked shirt will become more comfortable which means I'll carry more shoulder most of the time. Accessibility and comfort. Keep looking till you have both. My shoulder carries with the weapon parallel to the ground verses vertical, smoother draw and max comfort. ALSO with a shoulder you're able to carry duel mags for back up.

As a big guy I have found something like this:

works well for me.

:pleasantry: welcome DD at 400 lbs you are a little guy beside me,I cc using the super tuck by cross breed for my smith & wesson M&P 45 and love it.

I would think that a pocket holster would work. How about ankle carry? If you can drop to one knee and get up then the ankle carry would work.

Dave, I'm a big guy also. I'm about 6' now. Over the years I've lost 2" in height and I'm a little over 300lbs. I carry a Kahr PM45 in a Kydex IWB tuckable holster that I made. I find that a IWB holster works best for me. Usually carry it in my 3:00 to 4:00 position with my shirt in or out without printing. Being big a OWB holster won't work for me because it really prints bad. I also carry a BUG in my back pocket, a Kahr P380 in a wallet holster. You just need to try different methods of carry to fine the one that suites you best.

Being 6'2" and at the time, 290, when I first got my CCW, I also struggled with this same issue. I got an Uncle Mike's, just to experiment with where to carry. It quickly became evident that the UM was not a long term solution, as it's very flimsy and wouldn't stay in place. However, it did help me determine where to carry, which is inside waistband, right side, about 3:00 position. I tried center back but carrying a S&W Sigma back there proved to be uncomfortable. A thinner profile gun might be ok there. Anyway, once I determined IWB was the place for me, I ordered a Kholster for $40 on sale, including shipping. After wearing it for a few days, I trimmed it to fit the profile of my gun and stained it black. I really like it as it's very comfortable and the alterations do not void the warranty. I hear a lot of good about the Supertuck on here as well but the Kholster is cheaper and also carries a lifetime warranty. Either would probably work for you. Just my 2 cents. Good luck. Oh and by the way, my Uncle Mike's works great for holding my piece between the mattress and box spring at night. :-)

I'm not quite your size, but I have a drawer ful of holsters that I have tryed just about all my guns in differant positions, it really gets down to the dress for the day, cannot carry at work, but do to and from, Serpa paddle, i have one for each of my Glocks, worn at 3 o'clock, IWB for my Taurus PT-709, and pocket and ankle holsters for my PT-738, and I have tryed most of them in a middle of back holster (unkle mikes)
