I don't think open carry should be outlawed, but I do think it is stupid.
My point was, if you're in a gas station open carrying and someone decides to come in and rob the place, you may as well be holding up a sign that says "I'm the only thing standing between you and a successful robbery. Kill me now." I am 100% opposed to any firearms restrictions however I think there are some actions pertaining to carrying a firearm that are arrogant, naive and foolish.I don't think open carry should be outlawed, but I do think it is stupid.

I agree that the sight of a gun would most likely deter crime. However most stop and robs happen by parking, jumping out and busting in the store real quick-like and doing their thing. They generally don't scope the place out through the windows first and do recon on every customer in the store. So say they bust up in the store and then notice a guy down isle 2 that they wouldn't see through the window who has a gun on his hip? You think they're gonna let him walk? 3 things are going through their mind...get paid, don't go to jail, and don't die. Guy with a gun poses a threat to all 3.My point was, if you're in a gas station open carrying and someone decides to come in and rob the place, you may as well be holding up a sign that says "I'm the only thing standing between you and a successful robbery. The sight of a firearm typically acts as a deterrent to crime. Someone who is going to rob a store doesn't want to die robbing it and most likely won't kill either. In and out and off running with the route of least resistance. I have yet to see OCers going down in a hail of bullets because they are 'targeted'. Many don't even notice an open firearm. But honestly, your point lacks any evidence based fact.

Open carry was an advantage in this case because in the video I saw just how fast the GO managed to draw his gun and begin to return fire. You always hear about how open carry is so bad tactically – you’ll be the first one shot, etc. Oh, yeah? The GO had a HUGE gun in plain sight and he was NOT shot. Who got shot first? An unarmed store owner.
