Conceal carry unloaded

I live in Ohio. And I would rather have a gun on me then not have one. I am 20 years old so I cannot get a ccw permit. But as I understand in most states it is legal to carry one unloaded. So I was asking who knows more about the law. That's why I would carry unloaded I don't have a choice. The world we live in today you shouldn't need a "permit" to defend yourself. But I understand you do need training. So if the law is anyone can conceal carry an unloaded gun what is considered unloaded? If I have a loaded magazine in the gun will I be ok if a round isn't chambered.

Please take this in the spirit its intended, as there is no offence intended, just a few words of wisdom from a old fart that knows better, You son are not of legal age to carry a gun also you cannot get a permit to carry until you are, so before you get yourself in a world of sheet, and if that happens you will NEVER get a permit, so until your 21 quit trying to act like a big shot, what your talking about will ether get you in big trouble or hurt bad, as I know of no 20 year old that can keep his mouth shut about something like that, this is proven by you comeing on this forum and yapping about it, now if this is found by a real ass of a LEO, he can find you it will take a bit of doing but it can be done, so for now shut up, and wait for your birthday and do it legal.

Since you are not 21 yet, this makes you also ineligible for the Concealed Carry Giveaway that ends July 31. Unless you have turned 21 by then.

Also, understand that you can't claim ignorance when you get caught violating the law. It is your personal responsibility to know and understand the law. Once you turn 21, you become eligible to own and carry (with a permit) a handgun. However, do you know the deadly force laws of your state? Do you know what the aftermath of a lawful self defensive shooting looks like? Do you understand that pointing your handgun at someone, waiving it in a threatening manner, or firing a warning shot can land you in jail? A firearm is not a magic wand that protects you from all the bad stuff in the world. It is a tool and you need to know when and how to use.

If you are going to carry because it's your Right, do so knowingly breaking the law, instead of ignorantly.

And realize...it doesn't matter if you are for or against guns...the arguments are the same if they don't want you to carry.

Ohio law is half-a$$ (like most laws are). In Ohio, he can actually own a handgun at 18 (18 is the Federal age limit) and open carry at 18. It is a felony for anyone to provide him with the handgun to own, however, and a crime (Ohio state law) for him to attempt to purchase a handgun until he is 21. If a person between 18 and 21 moved into Ohio from another state and brought a lawfully owned handgun with them, then they could legally open carry while <21. The problem is if the 18-20 year old person has never been a resident of another state, and they are caught carrying a handgun - the police officer is going to want to know where it came from.

Hey everyone I'm new to the site. I wanted to seek information from people who know more about this law. I know it is legal to carry an unloaded firearm concealed without a permit. Does this mean there cant be a loaded magazine in the gun? Or can I have a loaded magazine in the gun but not a round chambered? Any comment are appreciated, thanks.

The first thing you need to do is tell what state you are talking about. The laws vary substantially from state to state, so you'll get answers that have absolutely nothing to do with your question. For example, in the Socialist Republic of NY, it is not only illegal to carry unloaded, but it is illegal to even touch a handgun without a permit. In other words, if you have a friend with a permit and he lets you handle his/her handgun, under NY law, you are in "illegal possession of a handgun". So... where are you?
Wow did not know this... that is ridiculous

And to confirm his possible troll-ness, he has yet to answer the question about what state he's in. If I had to guess he is fishing for something incriminating to take back to his "Moms that need a little action" blog.

Son, if you're gonna carry a gun then carry it. Loaded. DO NOT carry around an unloaded gun. It's absurd. Check your state laws and abide by them or change your address to Pickaway Correctional Institution. Don't take legal advice on gun laws from a gun forum.

Maybe we should question your "troll-ness". In the OP's second post on this forum, and post #13 of this thread he told us what state he is in. To wit:

I live in Ohio.

I was referring to the gun law in new york. Everytime I think about new york gun laws I think about plaxico burress. He shot himself in the leg and did a 3 year sentence. Unbelievable

why is it unbelievable? that is the law in NYC, either you work to change the laws, obey the law or stay out of NYC.
the unbelievable thing is that the 3 year "mandatory" sentence for unlicensed weapons possession in NYC is rarely if ever imposed

Ahhh. The "desperate housewives" without a clue clan.

Why, he should have been allowed to shoot himself in the leg in a crowded nightclub? The guy, a non-resident, carried a chambered Glock in the waistband of his sweatpants with no holster. Darwin award to the great Plaxico. He was guilty as hell and deserved the time he did. As AVP said, change the law, obey the law or stay out of NYC. Now if I went to TX, or most other states without a non-resident permit and negligently discharged my gun in a crowded nightclub I'm going to jail.

My buddy has handled a lot of gun possession charges in NYC and generally they go to jail.

BC1, Texas isn't New York. If you just carried a gun into a crowded nightclub in TX you most likely would be in danger of going to jail regardless of if you had a permit or not or whether or not you discharged the gun. Texas has a lot more restrictions on where CHL holder's can legally carry than New York does, such as "A place of business that derives 51% or more of its income from the sale or service of alcoholic beverages for on premises consumption".

I'm not saying plaxico shouldn't have gone to jail. But I do believe they made an example of him. Someone said earlier that ignorance of the law isn't an excuse. If that's the law that's the law it may be the same in other states I'm not sure. I believe for him to be a first time offender I thought he would get less. The same with the point guard for the knicks can't remember his name. When I hear about guns in new york I think about plaxico shooting himself and going to jail. Unbelievable
