Conceal carry practice

I'm 20 and just wanted to get myself used to having something extra on my belt. Right now I carry my multi tool at 2 o'clock. To get used to the feeling. Do y'all have any other recommendations?

If you have a pistol, and holster, you might want to try carrying it at 4-5 o'clock around the house. I really never met anyone that carries at 2 o'clock myself.

Ah ok, thank you for your help!
P.s should I try carrying multi tool at the 4-5 o'clock range to get used to it?

I don't understand "practicing" carrying a gun. I just got my permit in May. So had never carried before that. I came home from lunch, checked the mail and noticed my permit came in, walked in the house, and put my gun in my pocket (I have an LCP w/pocket holster). Ever since, the only time it's not on me is when I'm in bed. I've been to the range a couple times to get used to shooting it, but that's it. If you don't take it out of the holster or fiddle with it, it's not going off.

And when the time comes to deploy your firearm in a matter of seconds with your life in danger, you might just find yourself wishing you had practiced more.

But there's a difference between practicing on your use of it and practicing carrying it. Practicing carrying implies that you've got a gun sitting at home doing nothing when it could be on you. Training or not, having a gun instead of a pocket full of tools seems like a better way to go.

The OP did say he was 20 years old. So it's possible the he lives in a state (like Washington) that makes it illegal for <21 years to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights and he is getting used to carrying something around that would feel similar to a gun because it isn't legal for him to carry a handgun yet.

Jewishredneck01, what state do you live in?

That's a hoot. You can join the military at 18 and kill camel jockeys with a machine gun, but cann't go back home and walk around with a small one on your hip until you're old enough.

I joined the Air Force when I was 17yo and at 18 I was stationed at the Little Rock AFB ( Arkansas ) where the drinking age was/is 21 but at 18 I was guarding Titan II ICBM missile silos while carrying a M-16 and a Smith & Wesson Model 15 .38 Special but I couldn't buy a beer.

Because you're used to things being in your pocket.

Now try an IWB or shoulder holster with a full size, all steel 1911. You will likely note the difference.

Also think of all the drills we do without firing, or with snap-caps. OP could play around with different methods of carrying, different holsters, practice his draw, etc.

Yea, I would never IWB any gun. I only pocket carry when I'm at work and don't want to freak out my customers. When I get home I use a pancake holster. Even when I do have the money to buy a full size gun, I will only use a pancake holster. I will just put it on and wear it.

Why does it have to be 4-5 Oclock carry? I carry mine at 1-2 Oclock because it's more comfortable and quicker access. There are people with different body types so whatever is comfortable/fit for them is the right way to carry.

My suggestion would be to forget about carrying objects of comparable size and focus on what you intend to carry. If you currently own the firearm you will carry and ever have an hour or more at home, just practice walking around with it there. Also, practice drawing and re-holstering the weapon (making sure to observe basic firearm safety of course). This will get you much better acquainted with carry than simply carrying another item in its place.

You may find a Bluegun helpfull, especially since you can likely buy one representing the real gun you intend to carry: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...gzWx21FemQhCmgnQA&sig2=tqbvfAol_OE2mcdZJ_MsgA

I actually like that idea! I'm 20, too, and I have kind of had the idea of taking advantage of the weight of my knives (I carry more than one knife in an IWB style) for when I finally get my handgun for CCW. But using a bluegun, I'm sure, will give the feel of the actual handgun being on your hip and can also allow safe drawing practice at home for when you're legal to CWW!
