Does anyone know if a USA ccl will let you in Canada to carry while your there

All hand guns are either prohibited or restricted in Canada. A US state CCL is not recognized by, let alone be all US states.

You will not even get past the border legally. One of the questions you are asked when you cross is "Are you carrying or transporting any firearms?"

beaver bill,
Just returned from a trip to Canada yesterday. You are asked both going into Canada and returning the the US if you have any weapons.
My suggestion is you leave them home, even knives with over a 3 inch blade.

Handguns (pistols and revolvers) are illegal in Canada and Mexico.

There are places that you cannot go in this world with your six shooter. Or ten shooter. Or fourteen shooter.Too bad.

The laws here in Canada are somewhat similar to NYS & NJ. Handguns are not illegal. Just different classes. We can not carry here and we do have a law in place to allow us to apply for a ATC (authorization to carry). But it is a huge may issue. It is never granted. You can have "bear spray" or "dog spray". Not pepper spray or mace. You can have knifes they can not be assisted opening ie; switch blades. Most of the above posts are wrong. You can go to the RCMP website for ref; http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/index-eng.htm.
It's sad I can legally carry in most of your states but can't in my own country. I exercise my right every chance I get when in the U.S.

Also, double-check your vehicle for any loose or dropped rounds that may have rolled under a seat, or those two .22LR cartridges that you just tossed into the console and forgot about. They are not above holding you at the border for hours while you explain why you have ammo for supposedly non-existent guns. This is probable cause for a search. Be very convincing because the next step is a detailed search of the vehicle. If they find a hidden gun they'll be pissed because you lied to them. If they don't find anything, they'll be pissed because you wasted their time. If you think you may be one of the elite who may be authorized to carry, contact the controlling authority well in advance of your trip and be sure to dot all your "I"s and cross your "T"s.

Incorrect (about Canada anyway).
Handguns are completely legal for civilian ownership in Canada, with a few stipulations.
You must possess a Restricted Possession and Acquisition License. (RPAL). This is needed to possess restricted weapons which include most "black" rifles, short barreled rifles/shotguns, and handguns with barrels over 4.2" (approx 105mm). Grandfathered individuals are allowed to own Prohibited weapons including short barreled handguns and certain weapons that have been arbitrarily Prohibited in Canada by name (AK-47, FN FAL) or calibre (.25 or .32).

Here is a helpful guide for Americans vising Canada who are interested in bringing firearms.
A Practical Guide to Canada's Gun Laws for Americans

An interesting fact is that we do have the ability to apply for concealed carry permits in our current firearms law (Canadian firearm law is Federal law). It is called an Authorization to Carry. However, in practice, it is almost completely impossible to get. In our country of 30+ million, there are less than a hundred ATCs issued for the protection of life (mostly judges, prosecutors, politicians, etc)

There is a small but passionate group of activists in Canada working toward concealed carry, however we are a loooong way away from that day.

I'm having a very hard time believing that someone could have a CHP and be ignorant on such a glaring point of the law

A few years back was crossing the border every night playing hockey in an industrial league, chatted about weather, hockey etc with the same guys in the booth every evening for 3 weeks. The last night showed them the trophy we had won & they said they'd like to do a routine search, was driving a brand new Ford at the time. They found a 12 ga bird load in the ash tray I had forgot about, took out the back seat & stripped the trunk, found nothing & piled everything on the sidewalk for me to put back together, had a rattle somewhere in the trunk after that I could never get rid of, they can be real pricks when they want to.

Why? Most gun owners aren't even willing to invest the time to learn the gun laws of their own state, never mind other states and other countries.

It almost takes an act of parliament. They do have lockers on the U.S. side that you can rent to put side arm in. Then pick it up on way back.
