Conceal Carry for Military

What I don't understand is how the government trains new recruits to fire a weapon, pistol/rifle, however, don't allow the same people to carry concealed. It seems plausable that they are subject to use a weapon in the need of war/ or protecting the United States but not being able to carry while in the US. Wake up politicians, use them 24/7.

Isreal does it...

I agree that if more service members were authorized to carry while in uniform on duty, things like the Fort Hood shooting could have been stopped sooner. However, there are a lot of places and jobs that carrying isn't practical... aircraft maintenance comes to mind. It's impractical for the MX guys to carry sidearms while working on an aircraft... they'd actually get in the way. Luckily, Security Forces is always patroling the flightline.

Now, other jobs wouldn't have any such issues... office jobs, warehousing jobs, etc. If troops were issued an M9, to be carried in a mil-spec holster on web gear at the start of shift, and turned it over to the next or locked it up at the end of the day... that could work. And even then, perhaps only NCOs would be authorized to carry... cut down on cost and logistics of supplying everyone a sidearm.

Well, as a squad leader, I would trust my other NCOs to carry concealed all the time, but not the Joes. I know they've been trained by the government, but there is still an astonishing amount of immaturity in the lower ranks. Not generalizing everyone by any means, couldn't get much done without some of my really good specialists, but there sure are quite a few that are pretty young.

The USAF has the same problem... in general, most in the ranks of E1-E3 are little punks... about half of the E4s are worth a damn and are good supervisors... and about 80% of E5s are doing their job. It's a generational thing...

I would have to agree. If this were going to work we would have to have a rank say E-5 that people are given the responsibility to carry concealed at.

hello im from MO and just got my CCW i agree with this post you would think that somethat was in combat arms deployed over a yr that carried his weapon everyday of that should be able to get a CCW and not have to do that class or at least not have to pay for it

I was an OH-58 mechanic. I wasn't issued a pistol, I was issued an M-16. Its very hard to keep it on you when climbing on a helicopter. I usually kept mine in the back seat when we were in the field, but it just wouldn't have been practical when on post.

Bob: I have been retired a long time but, never during my active duty time, were military personnel authorized to carry on post. Personally, I think it is a bad idea for the same reason you gave, there are a lot of little punks out there now that shouldn't be trusted carrying. The Israelis do carry but that is because they are in constant danger. Things do happen here but but we don't have that imminent danger on a daily basis as do they. With the attitude displayed by some in the military today, a hothead could start something more dangerous than the raghead major did at Ft. Hood. All it would take is one incident to take away the ability to even have a private weapon on post and to never carry a military weapon except in the field. Don't think you will ever see it authorized.
