The two times I have had to produce a firearm to stop an attack there were multiple people coming at me. It wouldn't be difficult to, at random, pick out two guys who in total outweigh you and as a team can do things even a trained individual cannot.

Yes, regardless of your size or strength you can easily be at a distinct disadvantage so there is no reason to not carry something to even it out in your favor.
