Composite carry gun

I'm looking to buy a carry gun with capacity, but don't know what to get. I love the feel of 1911's but want something with more than 8 rounds. Glocks are too fat in the grips, and the mag releases on all polymer framed handguns are a pita to operate while trying to maintain a shooting stance/grip on the gun while reloading. Suggestions?

Also- I currently own 3-1911's, 1-colt pony, 1-mustang, 2-jr colts in .25 and 4-.32auto, I'd like a concealable handgun with capacity that's user friendly

This is one of the reasons I purchased a Ruger SR-40c. Comes with both a 9 rd magazine and a 15 rd magazine. If I use the 9 rd, I use the finger guard so my pinky doesn't fall off the bottom. If I have the 15 rd mag in, it's full size. It's also comfortable for both me and my fiance.

I am going to give Greg Evans two thumbs up (wish they had a LIKE BUTTON) same here I LOVE MY SR40C

Well, the mag release issue can be solved for Glocks. Look for Vickers Tactical Extended Magazine Catch. I haven't tried this yet, but you just gave me the motivation.

The grip issue is something completely different. Have you looked at the Smith & Wesson M&P 9c or 40c? The grip is more ergonomic and the mag release is better than the on the Glock.

FNX-9 is just a perfect gun! Accurate, feeds perfectly all the time, piles up the brass in a 36" circle just behind and to the right. Good price, and most importantly, it has a safety and a hammer! Link Removed
They also make a 40 the same size and a 45 that is a little bigger.

My suggestion since you seem to know the features you are looking for is to go down to the local gun shop and put them in your hand. See what feels right, see which ones have a mag release that is comfortable, see which ones have the magazine capacity you are looking for.

As soon as you mentioned what you were looking for, my first thought was, Glock, or Glock-like manufacturer, but then you said you didn't like the grip. So, go down and try the XD's and their family line, try the S&W M&P's, try the Ruger SR40, try the Taurus. See what is a good "fit" with your hand.

Good luck to you, and be sure to let us know what you come up with.

I think you need to put the Walther PPQ M2 on your list to try. Great feel in the hand, nice mag release, and an amazing out of the box trigger. Highly underrated firearm IMHO.

I am an old 1911 shooter and you may want to look at ATI's "FATBOY". This is a short version of the 1911 with double stack 45 ACP handle.
