Compensator on 9mm carbine

Went to a gun shop to get a compensator for my 9mm carbine. The man behind the counter didn't have my barrel size and said that for the caliber it would actually affect the bullet coming out of the barrel in a negative way. Any thoughts on this?

I can't imagine the NEED for a compensator on a 9mm carbine(which one?). Not enough recoil to move the barrel much with such a small round.

Which carbine? I put one on my Hi-Point 995ts. I'm not sure if it really does anything, but hey it looks cool.

Compensator's on heavier calibers can make a difference on accuracy and getting back on target quicker. However; I can't see the benefit on a 9mm or lessor caliber.
