Compensating for fit when stepping up waist size for IWB carry

Hi All,
I typically wear pants size 32x32. I've changed my EDC to a different gun that has caused me to need to step up one waist size for IWB carry. So far, I have found that when I try on the same style pants that are one size bigger in the waist (34x32), the changes to the other proportions of the pants make them fit very poorly. For instance, I like the way 32x32 Levi's 550 jeans fit me when I'm not carrying IWB, but if I try on 34x32 550 jeans, not only is the waist larger, but the seat, hips, thigh, crotch dimensions also scale up making them really pouchy.

I tried some different styles today in the 34 waist to see if maybe moving from the relaxed fit to the more classic fit 505 would help, but it still wasn't quite right. I ended up buying some Wrangler classic fit jeans in 34x32 today which seemed pretty good, but I'm left wondering if others have already solved this problem.

For those of you that step up a waist size for IWB carry, do you also change to a different brand and or style? If so, what brand/cut do you usually wear and which brand/cut seems to work best when you step up one size for IWB?

Thanks!

I wear khaki pants with an elastic slide adjustment and belt loops, that lets me wear an iwb holster for my 1911 with no problem.

Howdy sly ferret,

That's another reason why I always carry OWB.

I just turned 50 so I'm not interested in having "my sag on" as the young 'hoodies call it.

Yesterday I drove from No. Myrtle Beach, SC to my home in Arkansas 934 miles away and carried my Glock 23 in a Glock sport holster OWB @ 3:00. I was wearing Wrangler slacks, short sleeve button up shirt and New Balance crosstrainer shoes.

Very comfortable and since I'm wearing the proper size pants if I need to go without a gun, like when I was in DC this time last week, all I had to do was pull off the gun and holster, tuck shirt in, put on belt w/out holster wear marks and I'm good to go!

I just have to try on different styles until one works. I buy most of my clothes at Wal-Mart because they're inexpensive and because I can bring my gun. I try-on clothes in the dressing room with my carry weapon to make sure everything works together. I've noticed that "slim" or "straight leg" don't work well and pleated pants are horrible with IWB.

You do know that there is a waist size between 32 and 34, right? It's called 33!

There are Levi's 550 in 33x32 and Levi's 505 in 33x32. I actually am wearing Levi's 505 in 33x30 and Lee Jeans in 33x30.

I'll have to see if I can find those. Not sure why I've never seen 'em before.

I do not buy 1 size larger for IWB carry, I just leave the top button unbuttoned and zip the zipper up as far as it goes. I wear shirts outside and not tucked in. This has worked for me for years and I know others that have done the same thing. I am like you, one size larger does not fit very well. Worth a try, Polo shirts work very well.
