compact 9mm

Hey out there, I'm a newbie to this kind of stuff. Though an avid gun owner { some say Rabid } for many years. I also have had a CT. carry permit for lots of years. I would like to get all of your opinion on a good and reliable compact 9mm. I have full size 9's, snubnose revolvers, a few pocket 22's and a rather sweet shooting Ruger GP100 for hand guns. I'm in the market for a flatter, smaller EDC gun in 9mm. Sorry if I cause a firestorm of opinion over this. I've been looking at a few and can't quite make up my mind.

I would go with a springfield XD subcompact or a glock 26 both of them are easy to use and conceal and they will always work when you need them.

I have a sub comp. Xd9 that carry everywhere. I bought it used at my favorite gun shop. I can hit with it at 50 yards no problem. Nothing has been changed or modified on my scxd9. It will eat any round u decide to put in it no problem. The other great thing about it is that u can buy the spacer and a standard 16 round mag and u will have a full size mag and grip on a subcomp instead of the 10 round mag and short grip

I had an XD40sc. Too chunky, too heavy for EDC. Have a look at the KAHR CM9. Good pocket carry, front or back. Light and powerful.

Ditto to Kahr CW9, or if you have more funds, the PM9 is absolutely wonderful! A "dream" to pocket carry or IWB--THE first one that I've loved to IWB carry. Best of luck in finding what you need and want.

I carry an HK USP 9mm compact and I love it. They can be pricey but you are paying for excellent accuracy and indisputable reliability.

+1 on the Glock 26 subcompact. Also good for pocket carry with no mag pinky extender in an Uncle Mike's or better but more expensive DeSantis Nemisis pocket holster. Not good for tight jeans but great for pleated khaki pants or loose fitting cargo pants (or shorts).

I have a XD9 sub compact,Glock G26 and Kahr PM9. The PM9 is what is with me all the time and my favorite!

Carry what you are comfortable with!

you might have more experience with handguns the me, so take this for what it's worth:biggrin:

but for a carry gun, would you prefer a DAO, or DA/SA manual safety or not? Those were some of the considerations I made when buying a carry gun. I wanted a DAO, no manual safety, and bought the Kahr CM9...which I love...

Like the OP, I went looking for a 9Mil for EDC.. I went to Cabellas in Hartford, the guy there told me they were not safe, and that I should only consider the 1911, 45cal. He said 9's can go off any time, but the 1911 can't.

I own a Ruger GP100 and a Vaquero, both 357mag, but too big for summer clothes....

Was the guy there right?

I second the XD9SC. True not the smallest and lightest gun ever made but min has 2K rounds thru it and has yet to have any malfuction whatsorever.

What on Earth was that guy talking about??? No caliber is more likely to "go off" than any other. That's entirely a question of the design of the gun, the firing mechanism and the safeties. There are 9mms to be had with the exact same configuration than a 1911 (which I suspect is where this guy was driving at with his nonsense). There's a lot of debate on manual safeties in general but again that's not a question of caliber.
