The sad truth is that the government in England is on record for having said that individual self protection is less important than controlling weapons in general. (I did not write the quote down so that is a paraphrasing of part of a piece I read on the subject)

Just as there, the government here in the U.S. is less concerned with individual liberty and individual self defense than they are with controlling guns so as to have it easier to control the population and amass power. ...Hitler, anyone? Mao? ObaMao?
