Colt Model 1905 - Rare Find

A few years ago the wife's father and WWII vet passed. He was a pilot in WWII in one of the super fortress bombers. I loved to hear about his old stories when flying through the Pacific. He would tell us about his time in Guam and how he once traded a bottle of Scotch for a Jeep

Anyway, the wife always told me about his old 45 and some old shotguns. I just assumed it was his 1911 service pistol however I was suprised to see that it was actually a Colt model 1905. It was in the top of a closet along with some old shotguns and ammo. It was also loaded, full clip, with one in the chamber when we found it.

After some research I discovered that is is extremely rare and valuable. I haven't had it appraised yet but it needs some TLC. For now it's resting in the top of my safe.

Kind of makes one wonder about the history behind these old firearms.

Super sweet find. Don't do anything to the finish though. The patena makes the weapon even more valuable usually, can't tell you how many times I see people destroy finds like these with "a little" steel wool. It looks incredible.

Exactly. Neighbor said I should take some fine steel wool to the Parker brothers 12 ga Barrels
???? Really? ???
Don't ever touch my shotguns lol

Don't touch the gun with anything other than a soft cotton cloth and some light gun oil. That gun is probably going to appraise at around $1500 to $2000 based on the photos you provided. Very nice!

In fact it is wrapped in a cotton cloth you see in the background.

I haven't done anything with it like field stripping or cleaning.

Like most things, condition, condition, condition. Yours looks to be FAIR: (0% - 40% with generally smooth finish, may have mild cleaning yet not deeply pitted, but well worn) to GOOD: (in working condition, finish 40% - 79%.) $1800ish

You'll want to contact Colt and get it lettered as well (it's well worth what they charge for it). Colt should also be able to tell you where it was originally shipped and the particulars of finish, grips, .... that it left the factory with.
