Colorado concealed carry permit questions

I'm from Chicago, which obviously has some pretty crappy gun laws, but I recently relocated to Colorado. I have Florida and Utah permits but neither are honored by Colorado unless I'm a resident of the issuing state. I'm still a home owner in Illinois so I don't want to give up my IL drivers license/id. My question is how can I get a Colorado CCW permit without a CO drivers licence even though I am a resident?

You must have a CO driver's license or CO ID. "In order to apply for a permit in Colorado, you must be a legal Colorado resident and posses a valid Colorado driver's license" (see link below). The application has a field for your License/ID number. I mention ID, because I applied for the CHP with Jefferson County with only an ID and received it with no issues. Below is the link to the FAQ section on the JeffCo Sheriff's page.

However, if you have property in CO, here is the work-around: "You must apply in the state where you claim primary residency (i.e. have a driver’s license, license plates, registered to vote, etc.)"

In your case, perhaps it's better to go ahead and get "localized". Read the FAQ though, and see if that will help you clarify your question a bit more.

One question: What is your advantage to having a driver's license in IL rather than having one in CO? I'm confused, especially if this is what is hanging you up in getting a CCW in CO. Are you still calling IL your primary residence?

I rent an apartment in Colorado and start my new monday, the home that I own and my wife are still in Illinois. I just don't want to change my ID's and all that until the house is sold and my wife is out here and it's all finalized. It's a ton cheaper for us to keep our cars registered in Illinois as it's a flat rate, where as Colorado is based on the value of the car (and we have a 2011 and a 2012). Can I have a drivers license for 2 states?
