Coleman No Guns Policy

I started to go into the Coleman store in Castle Rock, CO when I noticed their "no guns" sign. Too bad, I had money to spend.

Whole Foods carries a dietary supplement that my wife uses. Just noticed the "NOTICE: No Firearms Allowed on Premises" on the door. Bought two bottles to cover the delay for shipping from Amazon. I will NOT be shopping at Whole Foods again. It's just not worth it to me to enter a Free Fire Zone if I don't have to.

I can't for the life of me understand how they think these signs make them safe, it's just ridiculous! Unless they're just making an anti-gun political statement to which we need to literally stick to our guns and not give them a dime. I can't wait to see how many of these pop up in Illinois when we have conceal carry.

In Utah the signs don't carry any weight. They can ask you to leave, if you don't you get cited for trespassing. That being said, if it is posted, I will do everything to not shop there that includes telling everyone I know to avoid those services. I would rather give my money to those who share my 2A beliefs.

Same deal in GA.

it's the same In Mississippi. with an enhanced permit those signs can be ignored. they can ask you to leave but that's it. smoking inside however will get you a fine. for smokers it's considered a public building, but for firearms it's considered private property.

concealed means concealed. Who will ever see it. If it is not a "legal" sign........ Either way, find someone glad to take gun owners money.

That doesn't look like the typical no-gun sign that a business would put up, it doesn't say anything and just a picture isn't enough. Are we sure that's not just a sticker that someone slapped up there? Maybe they don't even know its there or the minimum wage employees don't care enough to remove. I'd at least talk to a manager and ask about it, then if they do acknowledge it is their policy then you can explain to them why they will not be getting any of your money. Win-win.

It was the Coleman Outlet store. I am new to Colorado, so I am not sure about whether or not they need specific wording. I know what they mean, and that is enough to turn me off. Here is a reply the sent to my email:

Martin,

The Coleman Company, Inc. ("Coleman") has legal obligations to provide every employee with a safe and secure work environment. In addition, Coleman has legal obligations to provide protection for all vendors, clients, visitors, solicitors and/or anyone in the general public while on Coleman property. Coleman is committed to complying with these legal obligations. In order to help prevent incidents of violence from occurring in our work environment, Coleman has implemented Coleman's Preventing Workplace Violence Policy ("Policy"). Among other things, the Policy prohibits bringing firearms, weapons, dangerous materials or chemicals or explosive of any kind or illegal drugs onto Coleman property.

Coleman recognizes the rights and restrictions given to persons who have obtained a license to conceal/carry handguns. The Policy abides by these rights and restrictions, while also adhering to Coleman's obligations and commitment to provide a safe and secure environment while on Coleman property. Coleman appreciates your understanding of our commitment and obligations

Thank you,

Jessica B.

Similar to other signs offered by sign companies/organizations:

Security Signs, No Guns-Weapons Signs, F7449
Safety Labels: [Graphic] No Guns Allowed label #LABEL_PROHIB_175-R-Safety Signs Labels-ComplianceSigns.com
Safety Labels: [Graphic] No Guns Allowed label #Prohib_979_SYM-Clear-Reverse-Safety Signs Labels-ComplianceSigns.com

In Overland Park (Kansas), the group The Gun Violence Prevention Project is giving out these very signs:

One organization in Racine, WI, is handing out this sign:

If the state doesn't have specific requirements regarding the wording a sign must have, then just posting the gunbuster symbol may be all that is necessary for them. Michigan, for example, doesn't require that signs meet any standard; signage isn't even required for a business to enforce a gunbuster policy. All that is required is that the business make a "reasonable effort" to communicate their no firearms policy.

Looks like they are descriminating against Beretta 92's  Guess I'm good to go with my S&W... You Beretta fans better just keep walkin'...

Seriously thanks for the heads up....... I won't be shopping there anymore.....

Haha, that is an interesting question, the law in most states at least says they have to make their no-guns policy known. With no wording to the sign I wonder how the argument would hold up, "I thought they meant no Berettas?" Or... "I thought it was a tricky way to say no Italians?" Who's to define what that little pictogram means?

That could be a fun arguement for me. I am part Italian and then if I carried a Beretta.... I am sure it would quite an interesting discussion with a store manager............

My Whole Foods in Colorado Springs doesn't have any GFZ sign. I haven't been there since January. Though, the last time I went, I was Open Carrying. There was even an LEO in the store that I know saw my Glock, but didn't say anything.

Concealed is concealed. At least in NYS those signs are not legally binding, unless you refuse to leave if asked then you can be charge with trespassing. Bottom line, if it's concealed, they will never know. Your state laws may vary...
