Cobra COB Freedom .380

Anyone ever hear about, or have an experience with, the Cobra Freedom .380? Just got my Virginia Non-resident CHP and looking for something to carry on those hot Texas summer days. Originally wanted to wait for the .40 XDS from Springfield, but found an add for the Cobra for $120. Heard a lot of good things about the LCP from friends (and threads here on USACarry). Should I wait for the XDS, save for the LCP, or take a chance on the Cobra?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

I wouldn't risk it. I'd wait and save up for something that has a known reputation for being reliable. I got impatient and bought a Taurus TCP earlier this year and plan on getting rid of it in a couple of weeks and getting a Ruger SR9c and LC9. Obviously budget has to be a factor in your purchase but don't skimp on something that you might have to bet your life on.

I own a Cobra FS .380.... if you buy one you need to rack the slide about 150 times to loosen it up, also work the mag release and safety about 75 times each because the gun is stiff out of the box. Also it's a good idea to polish the feed ramp with a Dremel or else som 440 wet or dry. I also painted my rear sights white and the front one orange because they are all black fixed sights. Clean and oil it well before firing. If you do these things you will find it a decent shooter, accurate and fairly dependable. However I do not carry it, I have a Bersa Thunder .380 loaded with Corbon Pwrball ammo and also a Ruger SR9c 9mm loaded with Hornady Critical Defense ammo for carry.

Thanks to the both of you! Cluznar, how does it shoot, ie, how does it compare to your other guns?

Cobra is on par with High Point

My Cobra has good accuracy at 10 yards, I can put them all in or near the bullseye.
Has little recoil since it is a heavy gun, nothing special about the trigger, and so far has been dependable.
But since you can not lock the slide back and because it is heavy I won't carry it. I would not be afraid to use
it to shoot an intruder in my home. It's a cheap gun but it will go boom when you pull the trigger.
