~The Dude Abides~
Two men are dead after they allegedly beat up and tried to rob the clerk at a general store on Acorn Hill Road in Hobbsville.
The victim is in the hospital for some pretty serious bruising.
Two men stormed into the general store around 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
They put their large guns in the face of the store owner and demanded money.
The clerk was hit with the guns and then kicked repeatedly on the floor.
That’s when police say he was able to grab a gun he had hidden underneath the register and he shot at the suspects.
One was hit in the stomach, his body was found near a red car.
The other ran away, but didn’t get too far; he died just a quarter mile down the road on Acorn Hill.

I live in this area. IF you want to whole story check out wavy.com they have more info. Apparently it was two brother beating the clerk and the clerk got off a couple lucky shots.

Heres what wavy posted:

GATES COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) - The Gates County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the identities of two suspects involved in a store shooting last night.

Officials say brothers Quinten Felton and Eddie Felton were shot and killed after an attempted robbery at Joppa Road Store located at the intersection of Acorn Hill Road and Hinton Road in North Carolina around 6 p.m.

During the robbery, Sheriff Edward Webb with the Gates County Sheriff’s Office says the store clerk was knocked to the ground, kicked in the back of the head, stomped on and kicked in the back of the ribs.

Webb says the store's owner legally owned the gun used in the shooting, and that most owners of privately owned stores in the county have a gun for protection.

An ongoing investigation reveals that Quinten beat the clerk while he was on the ground. Webb says the clerk had a pistol under a shelf and fired one shot at random over his shoulder while Quinten was beating him, striking Eddie the the stomach. Then, Webb says the clerk stood up, grabbed the barrel of the rifle that was pointed in his face by Eddie and fired several shots through the window as Eddie ran out the door.

According to Webb, Quinten and Eddie's parents couldn't find them last night. Eventually, the parents came to the store to identify their sons' bodies.

Quinten was shot in the stomach and was found dead by the nearby woods. Eddie was found dead by the store.

Webb says casings at the scene match the type of rifle that Eddie had.

"Unfortunately they're just two young men that did something very uncalled for," said Webb. "And, of course, they have paid the ultimate price."

10 On Your Side's Anne McNamara spoke with family members about the Felton brothers. A cousin of the brothers said they were nice kids, and that kids make mistakes. The family expressed concern for the clerk involved as well.

Family members say Eddie graduated Perquimans High School in 2010, and Quinten was supposed to graduate this year. The school confirms that Eddie was a varsity football player and was ranked third in the state for basketball. Quinten was an honor-roll student at Perquimans High.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Gates County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation. Officials are looking into robberies at two Duck Throughs - one in Pasquotank and one in Edenton - and comparing them to the incident at Joppa Road Store to see if there are any similarities.

Deputies are searching for a third person they believe was a getaway driver for the suspects. There is no description of that person at this time. Anyone with information on the driver's whereabouts is asked to call 252-357-0210.

but if he shot the guy that was running whilst being accosted by the other assailant as the story tells the law will stand or should stand by him
imo

yea, from what i gather today though the one beating him he shot over his shoulder and the other one was by the door hold a rifle at him. he was not running. so the owner i hear is in right. i been in the store but so long ago i cant remember owners face. sad part is the younger one of the brothers was a senior in high school, mom is a teacher, and dad is maintenance worker, lost both thiers sons. wish better judgement would have kicked in. glad owner didnt get killed though. i heard boy were striaght A students, band and football. details about why and how are still coming out. kids at school i heard were going to roit (idiots we have now). still alot of rumors out there but ill keep yall informed if i hear something if you want.

Generally, if a person is on the ground and is being stomped and kicked in the back of the head, the assailant(s) is(are) considered to be using deadly force. The victim is generally allowed to use such force as necessary (including deadly force) to stop such an attack. Additionally, the disparity of numbers (two against one) kicks in (no pun intended) to further justify use of deadly force by the victim.

The clerk, his body having absorbed the punishment noted in the report, reasonably believes he is a fight for his life and acts to stop the attack. Those involved in a fight constantly reposition themselves - sometimes to run away, sometimes to gain advantage over the other - without saying what they are doing. Neither attacker was incapacitated instantly by the clerk's shots, so he really could not be expected to conclude that they presented no further danger to him.

I've had my "bell rung" hard enough that it was several minutes before I could hear anything over the roaring inside my head, twenty minutes before I realized the magazine I was pretending to read was upside down (not by the words on the page, but by the THREE images I saw of each PICTURE), thirty minutes before I could make any sound besides a grunt, and forty-five minutes before I began to see fewer than three images of any one object in front of me. I'd have been VERY hard-pressed to defend myself in that condition (fortunately I didn't have to). The clerk was able to act BEFORE he reached that dire condition.

I agree with what you said. I believe though, in instances like this, when they walked through the door with firearms, deadly force was in play, well before the stomping occurred. I too am glad he had the reaction to defend himself before he lost his mental status.

In my book, that clerk is a serious combat martial artist. What's good in training, but what you do when SHTF, that's what matters.

Whilst the story is unfortunate, it reiterates again why we carry. Why we should try to educate our neighbors and friends to carry as well. That shop keeper had no idea that morning anything like this would ever happen but he did prepare for it just in case. As we all should.

AND PLEASE, people need to stop mentioning about BG's family and friends and how it's effected them. I have no sympathy concerning what these two thugs went in to do. Straight A's this, footballer that........screw em. They made adult decisions, they paid the consequences. Maybe, just maybe other potential thugs will learn for this. (and who says I don't see a silver lining in everything bad)

Agreed on all the above. These guys were apparently influenced by some of their peers or from some other social media. This is why the younger kids need hang out or just be around some older folks for a more experienced/balanced outlook on life or just the voice of reason and sanity rather than just their young friends who have a limited view on life and reality.

I do agree i dont care much for th bgs, i do feel sorry for a mother loosing two sons and a father seeing his his son lying in a coffin. Just because thier children made a huge mistake and down right awgul and disgusting act does not mean that their parents failed them. After the the mid teens a persons makes their own decision no matter what was taught. So in that case i do feel sympathy for the family. The were awgul for what they did and got what they deserve but the mother didnt deserve that pain.

Two nice young boys???? They don't sound very nice to me, hope the owner of the store recovers quickly.
