Citizens for a REALLY Safe Ashland (Oregon)....

The following video was posted as a satirical poke at the Ashland, OR City Council. I get the satire, but think it could have been delivered much more forcefully, and easily have exposed much more idiocy and hypocrisy by the City Council than it does, but it's still cute and made it onto Sipsey Street Irregulars Blog, so I'm reposting it here. I am also including the Description from the YouTube page where it's stored because it gives a little bit of context as to what the proposed gun control ordinance is all about:

Ashland Oregon

A citizen speaks to the City Council in opposition to a local "loaded carry" ban ordinance one of the Councilors has brought for consideration. No facts, figures, statistics, or other evidence of any existing problem has been presented by the sponsoring Councilor. She has however, made emotional pleas to "protect the children", dropped the "Sandy Hook" tragedy as supporting gun regulation, and other such ********. [bull excrement]

She actually said "I know there are statistics out there but I didn't look them up". WTF

Meanwhile, the Chief of Police has stated that the town has NEVER had an incident involving an open carrier. Hmmmmm no problem? Why an ordinance then? Oh yeah....to FEEL good.

This citizen uses satire to point out the idiocy of the proposed ordinance.

Friggin brilliant! Absolutely friggin brilliant!!

The only reason I didn't feel that strongly about it is because all the council members that were shown during the comments looked amused and on the verge of LOL. Those would be the same council members who would be voting on the "no loaded guns" ordinance that the satirist was addressing with his satire. Just didn't seem particularly effective to me based only on what I saw of the members.

This kind of ordinance is no big surprise for a haven of liberals like Ashland. Many of those escaping the liberal haven to the south end up there. Then they move on to Eugene, Salem and Portland.

The only sane person was the one delivering the biting satire.

As blues mentioned, the council shots got the members' smiling, smirking demeanor.

It appears, another batch of liberal, intellectually challenged council members have made asses of themselves, and worse, they don't even know it!

It's an atrocity we have so many carbon based lifeforms on this planet with defective DNA.

It's mildly amusing to witness the ease with which other states' citizens can blame migrant Californians for their own state's leftist leanings.

I'll guaran-damn-tee ya that no place I've ever lived since escaping the tyranny in CA has been anything but more conservative than before I got there.

Perhaps CA is in part as liberal as it is because of Oregonians and Washingtonians moving there to escape the cold and rain. I choose to believe that it's just that there's leftists who are willing to steal your rights at the drop of a hat everywhere you go, regardless of which states contribute migrants to which other states.

Just wondering fuhr, but do you happen to know how many, if any, of the council members sitting in that hearing room are transplanted Californians? What does it say about the "issue" you raise if none of them are? What if they're all leftists, as well as native Oregonians? That would make it Oregonians' fault, rather than Californians' fault that Ashland is such a haven for leftists, right? And in the end, what does it really matter? The enemy is anti-constitutionalists, right? They are everywhere my friend. No better or worse because they hail from CA than if they hail from OR or WA D.C. or NYC or even Great Britain or any other progressive/globalist-rich part of the world.

Native Californians are not your enemy - progressive globalists and anti-constitutionalists are.

I have no clue how many or if any of the council has migrated from the south. I admit I'm painting with a broad brush. I'm a native and it's been my experience that most of the left wing loonies I've come in contact with have been transplants but not all. There's plenty of native left wing loonies here also. If you look at the election numbers most of them migrate to Ashland, Eugene (collage town), Salem and Portland. The rest of the state is red.

I just get sick of the outright bigotry directed at people for no other reason than which state they were born in. Liberalism isn't contagious. It's a conscious choice. Many, if not most, Californians who leave their home state do so to escape uber-leftist governance. The video I posted has absolutely nothing to do with Californians. You're in OR and you and your fellow natives are much more responsible for allowing the kind of liberal pap on display in that council chambers than even the most liberal Californian has the potential to be. Instead of blaming Californians for what's going on in that council chamber, maybe you should go to Ashland and support people like the man testifying in his personal attempt to oppose creeping liberalism. In case you missed it, he's a Brit, which, taking your bigotry to its logical conclusion, you would extend to him as well. Pretty much proves that your bigotry, as all bigotry is, has no logic to it at all.

And the fact is, I certainly didn't post it to point out Oregon's deficiencies at all anyway. I posted it to point out an anti-gun mindset, existent throughout this country in every single state, that was being challenged and addressed in a unique way - through attempted humor - and it wouldn't have mattered if it happened in OR, CA or Timbuktu, it was the two mindsets, and a unique way of addressing an issue, that I was trying to draw attention to.

So now I'm a bigot. Interesting.

Taking only what you yourself said at face-value, and with the caveat that it's based on "nothing more than which state a person is born in," yes you are.

I find it something less than "interesting," but to each his own.

Interestingly...the only person to give me any trouble in the northwest (Washington to be exact) about my carry was a Texan .....

Also interestingly, I did a quick fact-check on what fuhr said about the rest of the state being red besides Ashland, Eugene, Portland and Salem. There are seven congressional delegation members from Oregon. Both Senators are Dems, and four out of five House Representatives are likewise Dems. While the one Republican district is by far the largest in area in the state, like most blue states, it is the most rural area and the population centers control the voting, no different than CA and WA, as well as all of New England, plus MI and IL and likely most of the other blue states. The fact is though, that Ashland clearly falls within that one red district, so all the California "left wing loonies" aren't overrunning Ashland, which is where the video in the OP was recorded. And "the rest" of the state being "red" is hardly accurate. Only one federal seat in the whole state is red. That one seat represents ~14.3% of the federal delegation.

Conversely, I also checked CA's congressional delegation stats. There are 53 Representatives and 2 Senators. Both Senators are the worst of the worst kind of Dems (Feinstein and Boxer), but 15 Representatives are Republicans. Those districts are found from CA 1st District (which just happens to border the only Oregon Republican-held district - and Ashland), all the way down through the Sierras, the San Joaquin Valley, all of the Mojave Desert, Bishop and Death Valley districts, and districts in LA, Orange, San Bernadino, Riverside and San Diego Counties. Those 15 districts represent ~27.3% of CA's federal delegation, which is just shy of twice as "red" as Oregon's delegation.

So, statistically-speaking, if a liberal Californian were looking for a more liberal place to move to, Oregon would be a great choice, but to claim that Californians are making Oregon more liberal, or that "the rest" of the state is red, is not supported by the facts. Ashland itself is in the only red district, and the rest of the state is clearly blue.

And certainly there is zero evidence on the table to suggest that Californians contributed at all to the gun control ordinance being considered in that council chambers in the only red district in the entire state.

Irrational, unsubstantiated, and most importantly, inaccurate knee-jerk blaming of Californians for liberalism run amok in a neighboring state that is, and always has been since at least 1975, a liberal state, is bigotry against Californians, period.
