I was cleaning up and came across this:

LINCOLN said “Study the Constitution! Let it be preached from the pulpit, proclaimed in legislatures, and enforced in courts of justice.”

And then he violated the constitution. He suspended the writ of habeas corpus holding people in jail without due process, shut down the press and forced railroads to transport union forces and supplies without compensation. Trying times called for drastic measures. I always thought that was a kicker.
