This is just a curio question. What has been the average wait time for my fellow Texans CHL permit? I mailed in my info Feb.18th and the txdps states that it is still waitingon my required materials. It's been about 3 weeks now. I am positive that I have sent in the required materials. My instructor told me that their backlog was better these days and should het my license in about 2-3 weeks.

I am in the same boat. I sent mine over night to Austin on Feb 28th and mine still says "waiting on packet to be received" (or something like that). I have called and waited for a good 45 minutes to talk to a person in Austin a couple of times, all for them to tell me they don't know how long it will take and I should check online for my updates. Talking to people who recently received theirs on other forums I have been told that it is only taking about 30 days from the time they received your packet until you have the license in your mailbox. We shall see! Let me know if you get yours and how long it took. I will do the same.

Interesting, I sent them an email and got a reply today. As fallows:

Hi, I was just curious if ya'll have recieved my required materials for a CHL. I mailed them off feb.18th 2011. My instructor told me that the process should take about 3 weeks, but I know it may take longer due to applications coming in. I have registerd online and keep getting the "waiting on required materials" messege when I log in.

My name: James Tyson
DL #:
D.O.B.
S.S.# ending in:

Thank you for your time and response.

Sincerly

James Tyson.

Interesting huh? My deal is, where are my required materials? I sent them about 4 weeks ago. I can understand a backlog but they haven't recieved my materials or haven't bothered to tell that they have.
I will update this thread when I find out something new...or get a suprise in the email, which ever comes first.

Finally good news!

Well, I checked the Texas dept. of public safety website today and after sending my required materials they have posted that they have been recieved and my background check is in process. So I guess it shouldn't be long before I'm licensed and carrying. I sent the materials off Feb.18th to give ya'll a time frame.

Update!

Just checked the TDPS about my app and discoverd my FBI back ground check has cleared. I am now waiting for the manufacture of my license wich should be here in around a week, will keep ya'll posted and then will give my time frame from start to end to give everybody an idea how long the CHL is taking these days.

Last CHL Update

April 1st, Recieved my CHL by mail today. TDPS is running real smooth these days. It took a total of 30 business days from the time I mailed it off to when I recieved my license. Good luck folks!
