Chicago has now surpassed New York as the murder capital of the United States. There were 500 murders in Chicago in 2012 compared to "only" 419 in New York. No surprise, Detroit is third.

I was a little bit surprised to see Houston, Dallas and Phoenix on the list of the top 15. Good to see Oakland still represents. Raider nation would have been mortified to be left off the list.

Detroit is not gun free. We have CC & OC here. Everyone carries, legal or not. The gangs, dealers & pimps are killing each other.

Chicago reminds me of what a post-apocalyptic metropolis would look like. So many people, so much violence, nobody's afraid of getting caught because the cops are either overwhelmed with case load or corrupt themselves. I'm amazed they caught two of the people involved in the park shooting already.

The 2 people they "caught" we're "involved" but we're not the shooter(s). A person standing on the sidewalk watching "might" be considered as "involved" to certain people.

If you look at the number of murders per capita:


In 2011,

New Orleans (57.6/per 100,00),
Detroit (48.2)
St. Louis (35.3).
Ft. Myers, FL (31.7)
Pine Bluff, AR (24.3)
Dayton, OH (23.3)
Rocky Mount, NC (20.6),
Gulfport, MS (17.6)
Harrisburg, PA (16.1).
Chicago, IL (15.9)

Then, consider places like Little Rock, AR where the homocide rate is manipulated by the "Man" to lower their per capita murder rate.

How do they do this? Simple. LEOs respond to a street shooting and find a young to middle aged black man shoot numerous times. LEOs ask if anyone saw or heard anything and everyone response "No." and LEOs rule that cause of death as "Unknown" that way it isn't recorded as a homicide.

Pretty simple. So, instead of Little Rock being in the Top 5 it isn't even in the Top 25.
