Chicago Police Dept requiring ALL officers to REGISTER ALL firearms

Anyone else hear the news that the Chicago Police Department is requiring their officers to register all of their personal firearms?

The other day, the Chicago Police Department issued an order to all sworn department members stating "Sworn members will register all duty and nonduty firearms with the Department" ( http://directives.chicagopolice.org...e0ca3-81d12-ce0c-aae3aeb1a519d78b.pdf?hl=true ) Section II H This means to me, that as a condition of employment, all police officers must register all firearms with the city. Mind you, any duty related handguns have been registered in the past, but now it's all of their firearms.

Wow. I would like to hear from Chicago LEOs about this. Fat chance. They would probably lose their jobs if they sang like canaries. What does this say about the department's trust of Chicago LEOs?

Isn't that a bit like eating your own? Or is corruption within the force the underlying impetus?

Why should LEO be treated any differently than any other citizen. Now they can taste the bitter pill they want to force everyone else to swallow.

exactly?? if the law in IL requires the registration of firearms why would a cop be exempt?

If every citizen has to register their weapons, then Leo should have to follow the same laws they enforce. However I am very against having to register firearms at all. It's no one's business what I do or do not own, with the possible exception of my insurance company so I can claim my firearms in the event I am burglarized... And even then the info should be kept highly confidential.

so explain why the coppers need to register their personal weapons?
Bad karma between brass, detectives and flatfoots?

Or even worse, unresolved innocent by-standers becoming injured or killed during off-duty shootouts with BGs?

I'd love an official explanation of this order.

Possible Too many drop guns showing up at police involved shootings? Get caught with a non registered gun and you have explaining to do.

LOL as if 1) a cop is going to drop a gun he registers. 2) a cop who is the top who may drop a gun would be of the type to register those guns. LOL if that's the reasoning behind this, it's a band aid approach to problem solving and will accomplish nada. If a cop does drop a gun, he probably stole it from a gang banger in the first place.
