It is Monday August 27th and the death toll from gun violence in Chicago continues to increase as 9 more people were killed and 22 more wounded over this past weekend.

Chicago's Superintendent of Police McCarthy says that we have a 'perception problem' that the numbers somehow are not 'that bad'.

Both Chicago Mayor Emmanuel and SoP McCarthy publically denounced the increasing gun violence calling for stricter gun laws as the solution so in an effort to clarify my 'perception' of this issue, I did a little research.

Chicago is fast on the way to becoming the murder capital in the US. Adding the 9 people who were recently killed this weekend, Chicago has seen 237 people killed by guns, and countless others wounded. That exceeds by twice the number of troops killed in Afghanistan during the same time period but lets expand that comparison.

Since 2001 when the US entered Afghanistan, there have been some 2000 troops killed in action. During that same time period more than 5000 people have been killed in the city of Chicago.

Do the math... you are 60% more likely to be killed in Chicago then you are in an active war zone!

Just last week, New York had a fatal shooting where one person (the criminal) was killed and 9 others wounded. It wasn't the criminal that shot the 9 other victims, it was the POLICE!

I think my perception of the problem is very clear. What isn't clear in my mind is why do the citizens of Chicago continue to elect these public officials that care more for the health and rights of violent gang members than they do the lawful citizens of their city.

In m opinion, Chicago is one of those places that will have a lot of murders every year regardless of what the gun laws are. Gun laws (or the lack thereof) are not the cause of Chicago's problem; its culture is. Yes, the gun laws do need to be changed, but until the culture changes right along with it, the bodies are going to keep piling up.

We should have spent half of the stimulus money on building new penitentiaries and the other half on guards so that we can put the bad guys in jail. A guy has 20 convictions, he shoots someone. Its the guns fault, really.
Our border patrol officer put their life on the line to catch the illegal's, if caught, all we do is send them back so they can try again the next day, really. Throw there arse in jail for a short stay. 2nd time they are caught make it a long time. Better yet, make Joe Arpaio homeland security chief. Can you imagine how many tents and pink jumpsuits you could buy with $787 Billion dollars.

If we send them back at all...

Illegal immigrant don't make sense. One is either an immigrant and by default legal, or is illegal and by default an invader. Our border security and enforcement is really pathetic, but hats off to those who are doing their jobs in spite of the current admin's failure to prosecute removal.
