Cerakote vs bluing??

I just bought a Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec that is OD Green. It was carried daily in a Crossbreed holster, of which one side is kydex, so the finish is something signs of wear. I'm wanting to have it refinished, but don't know much about bluing or Creakote. What are pros and cons of both? I will be taking to a gunsmith, so what would be the cost differences?

We'll I don't think there is anything prettier then a good bluing job!

But if you're going to carry the gun I think Cerakote would be a better choice when it comes to holster wear. And you have dozens of color choices. But keep in mind that all guns will show holster wear no matter what finish you but on them, some just last longer and are more durable, like HardHat, birdsongs' Black-T..nighthawks Diamondcoat stuff....

I think Cearakote is the best bang for the buck! :)

Good luck and post some pictures!

You should also look into Nickel Boron coating. I was looking to purchase an M&P in the recent past and my LGS had one with a NiB coated slide and barrel. I bought it at reasonable price, without any research on the coating and have been very satisfied. NiB does make it easier to clean, but there is only one choice on color that I know of.

I was researching pakerizing, bluing or Cerakoting a beat up 870 that I'm modding. I'm going to go with the Cerakote because of the durability and that the 870 will be a toss and go gun.
