CELL PHONES

True Story

A lady has changed her habit of how she lists her names on her cell phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag, which contained her cell phone, credit card, wallet, etc., was stolen. 20 minutes later when she called her hubby, from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says 'I received your text asking about our Pin number and I've replied a little while ago.' When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The thief had actually used the stolen cell phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 25 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from their bank account.

Moral of the lesson:

1. Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Sweetheart, Hubby, Dad, Mum, etc.

2. And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked through texts, CONFIRM by calling them back.

3. Also, when you're being messaged (Texted) by friends or family that to meet them somewhere, Make sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you are not able to reach them, then be careful about the going places to meet 'family and friends' who messaged you.

Never thought about it much. But I've always used first names only unless there's more than one with the same name and then just add the last initial.

Lots of people do their banking on them (I don't) but even more surf the internet with passwords and other details stored in memory (No comment).

Must not have had much in the bank if the entire amount was withdrawn from an atm or cash back.

What's the limit now on ATM's... $300 $600? That sure was a large bank account. If the perp went into the bank, would he have not been asked for ID to withdraw the entire account?

The advice given is decent, but the story seems fishy, but once again, a fishy story with no link to it to read for ourselves.

I said, think about it. All dangerous things with a cell phone happen when your are using it. People, in spite of the law, still talk and text on a cell phone whole driving. You get the same effect as a drunk driver. People walk into other people. and solid objects, while on the cell phone. You can't even carry on an intelligent conversation with people because they rudely can't leave their cell phone alone. I even see people in church texting during the service and prayers. It just makes you want to smack them in the back of the head. If I were a Pastor and saw a person doing that I would call them up to the pulpit and ask them to explain to the congregation, what was so important, more important than God to them, that they could not shut off their phone for 1 hour a week?
