What is a Post Office?

Since we have all these people talking about Post Office property. Let me ask if a store (pharmacy, grocery store) has a satilite PO that can sell you stamps, weigh and postage your parcels and letters (certified, registered, COD and the like) is it considered an extension/annex of a federal PO and do all federal laws regarding them apply.
I do know that if you rob one you will be going to Levenworth, Ks for your crimes and it will be the FBI that is after you for the crime.
Something to think about, just saying.
My pharmacy has such a facility and I OC there and don't pay any attention to the fact that it functions as a PO, in my opinion since the employees that run the windows are not PO employees the ground still belongs to the pharmacy. That's my 2 cents.

Corrected but not convinced.

Keeeping your weapon in a lock box and/or lockable glove box/console is considered a reasonable expectation of security (out of sight, out of mind) and then locking the car up to secure access to those locked containments. This will give you a leg up legally in case the worst would happen and would be considered by most prudent people to be enough.
That said you need to do what makes or allows you to sleep at night. You alone know what the area is like where you will be doing this and you alone can make the decision of what you are willing to do regarding this action. As long as you are within the parameters of the law and you are willing to accept the consequencies of your course of action with your security measures, sleep well my friend.

That sound reasonable but it does not comply with NY state law. Ammo must not be available near the gun.

Well Jim, since you covered the loaded gun aspect in your post #12 of this thread the need to reiterate this point would be wasted as long as it was paraphrased otherwise as in my orginial post "As long as you are within the parameters of the law".
We need people that carry to be aware of the law by reading and understanding the law through their own research. We as law abiding citizens need to become educated to better protect our freedoms under the 2nd Amendment.
In the furture I will try to be more detailed so folks won't have to expell unnecessary energy repeating themselves.

I have been working a bunch of long hours so I have not had time to reply. I thank all for their input. So, I gather that I should lock my handgun in my safe in my car, unloaded and then store the ammo separately. What a pain. I would like to draw the least amount of attention when doing so. I like to carry my Charter Arms 40 cal pit bull, which has built in clips, but is a little harder to unload and load.

I load and unload my semi-auto everyday. On the way to and on the way home from work. Weapon goes into a lock box stashed out of sight. Loaded round goes back in to the magazine I eject and I take it with me, unless where I am going does not allow ammo in the building. Can't think of too many places that is an issue except maybe beyond a metal detector (courthouse, on an airplane). If I cannot bring it, it gets locked in a separate lock box in the trunk. Awareness of your surroundings is key when unloading and reloading. Drive away from people if you are in a parking lot that is too busy, park farther away, do not park in the dark areas. I have also heard this from many people: Do Not paint your vehicle as a gun storage locker, it could very well attract gun thieves. Meaning you should not emblazon NRA, GOA, protected by stickers all over the place. Not saying that something subtle is an issue, but certain or too many stickers can be an attraction worth investigation . . . right? I have two things on my car: The flag of the USA and the words: Freedom Isn't Free. Have a marvelous day, play safe out there : )

Don't take it personally, dog. I just felt it needed saying because not everyone reads the whole thread. Someone reading just your post might make a serious mistake.
