CCW in Wisconsin?

I really don't have a dog in this fight, but it appears the folks of Wisconsin finally have the right people in office to finally get past their denial of concealed carry. Gov Scott Walker has said he will sign a bill permitting concealed carry, provided there is a provision in it for some training and obtaining a permit. I also have read that it has been approved by the legislature, but without a provision for permits or a mandatory training session. Let me just say, all of the states I know of have such requirements, including my own state of NC. So long as the states are "Shall Issue", by law, I don't have a huge problem with keeping the bad guys from also getting an approval to carry. The background check that is done keeps the permit, and the legal approval to carry, in a little higher standing than just saying anybody can carry, no matter what crimes they may have committed.

I may get slammed, but I really think what Walker is doing (or planning to do) is the right thing. I hope Wisconsin joins the civilized, free world soon.
 
Scott walker is a god send to wisconson. Also I live in Pennsylvania and you don't need any form of training to get a ccw just a 2 minute background check

The Wisconsin Legislature has passed CC bills in the past, only to be vetoed by then Governor Dole. This time if (when) it gets to Governor Walker it will be signed.
Now the main concern is the recall elections this fall, and the attempt to recall Governor Walker next year.
 
Walker initially said he'd sign ANY carry bill that made it to his desk....just the other day is when he started backsliding saying a permit and training must be required...

What happen to the slew of bills that were going to be pushed thru before the recalls?

Politics happened. Flynn (Milwaukee Chief of police) is openly against concealed carry and is telling the public that all these shootings in Milwaukee are only going to get worse if training, permits, etc... are not included in the bill. A number of Dems are arguing that a concealed carry bill will arm felons, rapists, child molesters, etc... The streets will fill with blood, blah, blah, blah!

This has put pressure on Walker and with all the recalls, some of the republicans are shaken up. Walker didn't say he would veto a permit-less bill, he said he'd like to see permits and training. I believe he will sign any concealed carry bill that hits his desk.
 
I hope Wisconsin can work something out. I'd like to be able to carry (I live in AZ now) when I go back to visit and I'd like my son to at least have a choice to CC or not.
 
I don't think anybody can really complain about a basic training requirement and a background check to get a CCW. With that said I do believe that all states should be "Shall Issue" but proving a basic understanding of a weapon that can take a life is not asking much. Same goes for background checks. We can't say we carry to protect ourselves against the bad guy while simultaneously arming them. Ya, they'll get their guns anyways but why make it any easier. I see bullet holes at my range in the station partitions, walls 5 ft down range.... from idiots that shot crap up doing who knows what, but it's enough for me to prove that the basic operation and safety of a deadly weapon must be taught.
 
Yes but the clock is ticking and I don't see any action in the last week or so. I hope they don't back pedel and push this back to the fall, under pressure from what has been going on. JUST PASS IT!
 
I can see exactly zero reason to require training before getting a CCW. Vermont has had constutional carry, no training, no nothing, just load it up and put it in your pocket, for over 100 years. Yes, more than one hundred years. None of the Milwaukee Police Chief's fears have come to pass in Vermont, or any other state that doesn't require training. None. Period.

There are a number of states that also have no training required - Pennsylvania, where I live, is one. No blood in the streets here either.

The problem with requiring training is the cost and the time delay. If a person needs a gun to protect themselves against a stalking ex spouse, or boy friend, or girl friend, they need it right now, not in 6 months. John Lott has done the math. There are exactly zero statics available that show training makes any difference other than to delay getting a gun legally in the hands of someone who needs it for protection.

Finally, the people that most need a gun for protection are those that can least afford to pay for training.

Which is exactly the same "bumper sticker one liners" the Lib/Prog/Dem coalition uses each and every time the CC question comes up for a vote. DESPITE none of the "dire predictions" EVER coming true in States where the Laws are so changed.

The gunaphobics REALLY have to get some new material, their same old lines are being relagated to the level of laughable cliche's.

Well, the vote today was 19 Republicans and 6 Democrats for the law, 8 Democrats opposed, the bill passes the Senate 25-8, and moves to the Assembly later this week, where it is assured passage. From there it goes to Gov Scott Walker, a proponent who will sign it and make this law in Wisconsin. That will then leave Illinois as the only state in the union to deny 2nd Amendment rights to its citizens. Figures....
 
The people arguing against the bill kept using fear mongering.

Now I will get a WI permit to match my UT permit. :biggrin:

Now we plane people can go back to Wisconsin for the annual Oshkosh Airventure! Wow! I wonder if it will recognize CCW in other states too...or is this a valid question? Can we get CCW permit too even if we live out of state? Will it also allow legal residents to get CC permit even if they live out of state? Bear with me folks ... these are just the many questions that crossed my mind at the moment...
