CCW in movies

Do what?

Carry concealed in a theater? All depends on the policies of the theater. If they have a sign up that says don't, well, you have a decision to make: obey the policies of the property owner and go unarmed; go somewhere else, or disobey the posted policies of the property owner and risk a trespassing arrest.

Any minute now, someone will be along to tell us that "those signs don't have the weight of law," and "concealed means concealed," and so forth.

I open carry at the theaters not in shopping malls and concealed carry at the theaters in the shopping malls. The only movie theater I don't carry at is the one on the Navy base. Perfectly legal, why wouldn't I?

It is legal where I live. If it is illegal in your State then you might want to work on your legislators. If it is just a sign on the door then find a different theater. If they all have the sign don't sweat it you can own the movie in six months for about the price of two tickets. Would probably help to let the theater know that they lost your patronage and why. Leaving the theater, especially after dark, always put me on high alert.

One local one has the proper signage to prevent me from carrying there and the other serves alcohol for consumption on the premises...thats why I dont.

I can't argue with the signage - private property owner making a private decision. You can always look for another theater that doesn't have such a restriction.

But the no guns where alcohol is served restriction is probably based on your state's law. It's stupid because it assumes that everyone who goes to that theater is going to drink. they could have simply said no carry while ingesting alcohol.

Not a problem in my state. I think a couple of theaters down in Salt Lake have some signs, so I won't go to them.

If your state bans them, get the ban rescinded.

I wait for it to come out on DVD or Netflix. I'm not dealing with the movie theater's stupid crap. Overpriced movie watching and overpriced popcorn. Along with no weapons. Ha!

LOL.....seriously.

I do

Our theatre of choice in Texas is The Movie Tavern. They serve booze but the law here is if an establishment has more than 50% of sales for alcohol then you can't Conceal Carry. I don't belive this theatre does plus they have no signage whatsoever unlike a bar does. I conceal carry there every time.

Why can't you do it?

I dunno, I see plenty of concealed carry in movies.

Now, if you mean movie theater (as most have assumed when replying,) then, as you can probably see, you can.

The two major chains around here (Regal and CineMark) have no prohibitions against legal concealed carry, nor does the local chain (McMenamins) or the two independent theaters I often go to.

When asking "Why can't I ...?" it helps if you give more information, like where you are, where the policy you are asking about is stated, etc.

Funny you mentioned "like where you are" when you do not even put in your profile "where you are..." from. Just sayin'... (Sorry Walt...just have to borrow that one from you..)

Gun friendly state?

Well here in Virginia they are posted on the doors. Since I carry a full size gun I don't want my jacket to lift up and show and somebody call the cops on me lol

Nearly as I can guess, some State Legislators remember committing Violent Felony Stupid while over-indulging at their local watering hole and (since they obviously survived) don't think others in similar circumstances should face any risk of being shot for their poor decisions and lack of impulse control while under the influence. Strangely, those same State Legislators have no problem with NOT giving a free pass to one caught doing exactly the same thing when they are inhiberated OUTSIDE a place where alcohol is served. Go figure. It doesn't have to make sense - it is the law.

conceal carry

Sign or no sign...its called Conceal Carry for a reason. Unless you go into court or a Federal or State building, your right...the paper is worthless.

Whoops! Too used to the handle being obvious to people on other forums that are more locally-focused... (Running to edit now.)
