CCW in Florida taking forever

I sent my wife's Florida CCW application off over 9 weeks ago. They cashed the check within the first 2 weeks. I had her call at 6 weeks and they admitted they hadn't even processed the app yet. The limit is 90 days and so far they are at 63 days. The application instructions indicated standard processing time was 4-6 weeks. When you call in the automated message indicates standard processing time is 6-8 weeks. I'm starting to get very annoyed, especially since this is occurring under a Republican Governor.

I feel your pain im on about 7 weeks and counting in New Mexico under a Republican Governor who has her CCW at that.

Do u live in FL.? I have a Missouri permit an it took 4 weeks.if ur doing a out of state permit sometime it takes a while because there being flooded with apps I always recommend a permit to the state u reside in! Just because if you get a out of state permit if everyone in your state does that your state could get rid of the concealed carry if no 1 has it for that state!

And in certain states there's local laws that could give you a felony if you have an out of state permit like Missouri if you drive in a school zone with a Florida permit with a loaded handgun it is a felony! because of the safe school act! But if you have a Missouri permit it is not illegal. This is why I recommend your states permit over any other permit

I went through the same thing and have finally thrown in the towel. They requested on 2 different occasions additional info to which I gladly provided. Then on the 3rd request for more info I just gave up. I'm not sending them any more information. I have a resident SC permit and a non-resident NH permit and I am done with these idiots. God bless you for having to deal with them. I guess I can write this off as a $117 lesson learned. I'm pretty sure the people that I've spoken to at their dept. of licensing never graduated 5th grade. This is the most pathetic form of government I've ever dealt with in my life.

My understanding is that FL has been getting a lot of applications for permits in the past 9 months so this may have something to do with your delay. It can also depend on which Dept of Agriculture office you go through. When I did mine a year ago at the Miami office I had my CWP in 8 business days.

Yes, I heard from a friend that he got his in 10 days by visiting one of the Dept of Ag field offices however I sent in my wife's the old fashioned way, direct to Tallahassee. I've had mine for 20 years and each time I renewed it would only take 2-3 weeks.

11 weeks and still waiting on my wife's CCW here in FL. I had her call last week and they said the clock started on 8-17 which is the same day our check got cashed. That is BS. I mailed it to them on 8-4 and they received it on 8-6.

Florida has 90 days to issue but I'm not certain when the clock officially starts. I would have thought it started when they received my application.

i think it starts when they cash your check ......i got mine not too long after and i even had to clear up an old bogus police record and i emailed and talked to them via phone the women were very pleasant with me and shortly after i faxed the info out she called to let me know it was in the mail ;) now it's in my wallet and goes everywhere me and my wallet go

OK, assuming the clocked started when they cashed myy check they only have until 11-17 which is 12 days from now. Florida's Dept of Ag is cutting it very close here.

I really want her to be prepared for the post election chaos.

What is my recourse if they don't issue my wife's CCW permit within the 90 day period?

I sent in my paperwork to Tallahassee and received a permit within 60 days. My wife sent hers in a week later and is still waiting. The 90 days will be up next week.

I have not found a way to get past the automated telephone tree to speak to a live person. Do you have such a number?

The State sent me a letter authorizing a $5 refund on the fee but wife has gotten no such letter.....so far, or any request for more info. WTF?

I too just got the letter about the $5 refund. I'm not sure what that's about. Did they recently lower the fee by $5 or something? As for the automated Voice response, I eventually got thru to a live person but I think I had to let it all play and then finally pressed zero or something. They sure don't make it easy.

Anyway, we also received a letter on 11-7 stating that the FBI rejected the fingerprint card as illegible. I call BS here. We had a new one made (for $10) at the sheriff's office and sent it back the next day. They should have it by Monday and I plan to follow up again with a phone call on Friday which will just so happen to be the 90th day. I can't help but feel they used the fingerprint card as an excuse to buy more time.

Assuming there is a 90 limit specified in state law, your recourse after 90 days is to hire a lawyer to file a motion for a Writ of Mandamus with a court that has jurisdiction over the issuing agency. The court will then either grant the issuing agency an extension of the time limit based upon whatever excuses they present, or they will grant your Writ of Mandamus which is an order to the issuing agency to issue the permit. Then if the issuing agency fails to comply, they are in contempt of court.

I had the same problem, Turns out to be issues that have to do with identity thiefs or just errant reporting by police or the courts.

We live in Idaho but snowbird in Florida. I called to make an appointment at the Tampa office on Nov 14, 2012. The first available date was Dec 17, 2012. I went in and filled out the application on their computer, showed them my Idaho drivers license, proof of training and wrote them a check. They then took my fingerprints electronically, a photo and I signed the application and walked out the door. Less than 45 minutes and everyone was very courteous and efficient. I called the recorded tracking number on Dec 21 and was told the application was being processed and because of the large number of applications to expect a 8-12 wait. on Jan 9, 2013 my license arrived in the mail with Jan 5, 2013 issue date. Thirty four days for the appiontment and Twenty four days to process and send the license. Total of fifty eight day from calling to make the appointment to the license in my hand. If you are able to go to one of the offices it will speed the process. Problems with fingerprints, photo, proof of training, etc can be taken care of prior to the application going to Tallahassee.
