PLEASE ADD YOUR OWN REVIEWS TO THIS THREAD! Would like a rolling tally on opinions on classic holsters and new manufacturers/products.
Hey Guys,
I was going through my holster drawer and decided that I'd do some reviews, and maybe save some people some money. Keep in mind that this is the perspective of someone who open carries, carries under a jacket, and does IWB.
For this review I'm using holsters made for a Glock 17 which isnt a great CCW weapon, but I like a full size double-stack weapon and I'm sure others do too, hence the reviews.
If I paid MSRP on these holsters I would've spent $483.68 which in my area gets a new Glock OR about 2,500 rounds of ammo.

This is an IWB holster from Galco Gun Leather. This holster is widely available, and how I ent up with it a few years ago when I got my CCW license. It is a mildly comfortable holster made of premium leather. It features two leather hooks that snap together underneath the belt. Overall, this is a decent holster but has some serious drawbacks. The leather has a reinforced "lip" at the top that is supposed to keep the mouth of the holster open to re-holster. Unfortunately its not rigid enough to do so. The snaps also frequently come unbuttoned if you do anything but stand still. This holster will fold under the pressure of your belt and makes re-holstering a chore. This is strictly an IWB holster and why I gave this holster a 2 for value.

You are likely familiar with this Blackhawk 'SERPA' holster. It is a good design with an active retention device. It has a good look, and is suitable for open carry. The holster rides a little bit low for me, and using this as a 'concealment' holster isn't practical for me unless I have a longer shirt, or jacket. This holster offers a steady platform, and one handed re-holster is a breeze. I gave the value a 3 because it 'can' be used as an open carry or concealed carry holster.

This holster is similar in design to the SC2, but features the rough side of the leather outwards which helps control how the holster slides with smooth-faced leather. It features great quality, excellent comfort, and a nice appearance (not that it matters as its IWB). Although it is a good holster for its purpose at $128.95 for a single purpose holster its a bit over-priced, in my opinion.

This is a small manufacturer relatively new in the business. I have an Outside the waistband for Glock 17 w/ TLR-1 Light. The holster is definitely thick at .93" and durable, a good fit and its cool that it is made by hand. This holster works well for open carry, and rides similar to a blackhawk so a long jacket or shirt is a must. For $65, I think its a bit pricey but have no doubt that it will last years even with hard use. I tried an IWB that a friend ordered and in my opinion the .93" kydex is too thick for IWB.

If you haven't heard of crossbreed, you must have had your head in the sand. This is by far one of the most comfortable holsters i've ever owned. My Glock disappears with this holster. The innovative design which is half leather half kydex (crossbreed...) is very comfortable once it forms to your body, and offers a quick draw and 1 handed re-holster. I gave the value a 4 of 5 because even though its not multi-purpose if you're going to do IWB only THIS IS THE WAY TO DO IT. I can't say enough about crossbreed.

This is my favorite holster. I use a model which is for a Glock 17 w/ TLR-1. They use a thin kydex formed to your weapon. This is my favorite holster because it is modular. I can carry this holster OWB for open carry or under a jacket or regular length shirt, or use the 'J-Clips' to make it tuckable. To me this holster offers the most value as it is a "all in one" holster. It performs OWB, and IWB extremely well and allows me to keep a light on my weapon which I think is important. If I could recommend one holster, and only one I'd recommend this one.
