Ccw class

I'm finally taking the ccw class next month, and I was wondering if I can use a friends gun for the class? I own only one hand gun and it is a 45 XD. I love it, but at $25 a box for shells I don't want to shoot it at the class. Class requires you to shoot 150 rounds, that's $75 added to the $175 for the class. A friend is willing to lend me his 22 auto. Can I legally transport and use it in Michigan?

I realize the money aspect, but as an instructor I would highly recommend shooting in the class with the gun you're planning with trusting your life with. As far as the legalities, I see no laws that would be broken if you were to borrow your friends gun.

The class I took in MO, guns and ammo were provided ($135 class fee). You could bring your own if you wanted, but if you are already paying for it why?

It probably depends on the policy and procedure of the instructor or firearms training school. Some schools or instructors might provide both ammunition and a firearm to take the class. Having said that, here is what I think. I also discourage you from using your friend's firearm to take the class and especially if it is a .22 caliber. There may be folks who have to use such a small caliber because of a physical disability and it is better than being unarmed, however I would suggest that you use at a minimum 38 or 9 mm. A.22 caliber is an ok back-up firearm but I certainly wouldn't recommend it for your class. The legal aspects of transporting the firearm would depend on your state laws. One of the benefits of taking the class is to spend more time on the range with the firearm that you will carry on a daily basis. You are a lot more valuable to friends and family than the additional expense you will spend for ammunition.

The way I figure it, you oughtta be going through a box every week or so anyway. You really should train with the one you intend to carry.

Some states, like RI, require that the gun / caliber you qualify with for your CCW is the max gun you can carry. So if you qualify with a .45, you can carry a .45 or lesser caliber. You qualify with a .22, that's the max you can carry. Like I said, that's RI.....you might want to double check on your state's requirements.

Same here...I am also from Missouri and my husband and I took our CCW in Mt. Sterling (Armed Missouri). NRA Basic Pistol and CCW took 17 hours to complete but all the ammo and the guns are all included in the fee of $115. The instructors really took the time to teach us almost one-on-one, taking note on who is a bit slow and put more attention to that particular student. All three instructors were all there behind our backs making sure each one of us were following the rules and regulations of proper gun handling and any and all instructions.

Next month is our course on NRA Personal Protection for the Home and March will be the two day NRA Peronal Protection outside the Home. On these two courses we have to bring our own guns and ammo.

Where in MO are you Tucker's Mom? I'm in Johnson Cty - about 45 min SE of KCMO. Those classes you are taking sound fun and informative and I might sign up if not too far away :)

We took our CCW class at Midwest Tactical - they train SWAT there - cost $65 plus 70rds of ammo. Instructor is a military firearms trainer, Excellent teacher and Very reasonable cost!

My husband and I brought our own guns for our CCW though it wasn't needed and we also brought our own ammo but they were replaced. Anyway, we live here in Chesterfield, Missouri but Mt. Sterling is near Jefferson City, let's say about 20 minutes from Jeff city. One of our classmate came from KCMO and it is a requirement for him to have to take the basic pistol course before he can be an instructor. He took the two day instructor course that next weekend. He had already taken his CCW before so hubby and I were the only ones who took the course.

If you need more info, go to www.armedmissouri.com they are very very helpful out there. The venue is a very rustic, 240 acre property.

I also live in Michigan I do believe the law in this state says you can not use your friends hand gun. only yours or your wifes. I would check before you use your friends.
