CCer stops knife attack

From what I learned in the What If thread. The ccw should have minded his own business and taken cover while calling the cops. Silly guy saved two lives when he should have just tried to be a good witness. :patsak:

@aich I disagree. In the last thread it was a robbery, not an attack.

We don't know that..they are still investigating what happened, it very well could of been a robbery. We will have to wait and see.

Police are grateful for the bystander who stepped in, preventing the situation from worsening.

"This was a really volatile situation that could have gotten even worse," Purvis said. "He was definitely in the right place at the right time."

OMG, real life versus "what if" scenarios!!! Police are grateful??? If the guy didn't lay down on the ground.....attacked the "bystander"....he fires....
Wow, so much to think about. This guy was extrememly lucky that this didn't go south on him.
Just sayin'

Unfortunately, it had already gone south for the "victims". :stop:

I do agree the attacker & the bystander are both lucky it didn't go south on them. (The "attacker" especially, got off lucky.)

Just sayin'

The problem in the "what if" posts is that everyone makes a statement without being placed in a real situation. It's easy for people to say what they would do from the safety and comfort of their chair. Then, when the crap hits the fan they are caught behind the ractionary curve and things don't play out very well. Vision tunnels out. Auditory processing may shut down. Adreneline, epinephrine and norepinephrine dump into the body in large amounts. Hands shake. The body reverts to a primitive state where only gross motor skills are functioning. The attack is often very fast, violent and at very close range. There is no time to remeber the "what if" scenario. THAT, is the difference between keyboard defense and a real situation.

No one can predict how any critical situation will unfold. I can teach a skill set. I can drill it into your head through lengthy range exercises. You can learn the skills that will save your life. But what I can never teach someone is how the incident will present itself, unfold or the exact behavior of the attacker. Thus the advice in "what if" scenarios to stay out. Better yuet, people should just forget asking about the hypothetical situations. Now if a life needs saving we hope brave people will act. But many of the "what if" crowd are ready to jump to prevent robberies and such... very bad.

Police say a bystander with a concealed carry permit witnessed the attack and stepped in to keep it from escalating.
"(The bystander) was suspicious of what might be going on, and when he saw the stabbing, he just drew his pistol and challenged the individual," which caused the alleged attacker to lie down on the ground, said Salt Lake City Police Lt. Brian Purvis.

Chalk another one up for the good guys!
OoRah! :)

I hope that both of the victims make a full recovery.

jweasl is pointing out that in the robbery "what if" situation, there was no physical violence. It was only a property crime.

In this story there was physical violence and clear, immediate threat to lives.
