Carrying while driving a Government vehicle...

Good evening all! I have a question that hopefully somebody knows the answer to. My wife is a civilian worker at our local Airforce base. She will be making a business trip soon and will be driving a Government vehicle. Can she carry her firearm while driving said government vehicle?

Thank you and any information on this topic will help...

Not enough information provided regarding the trip, but just in the vehicle itself is the up to the base commander I believe. You need to contact the military police and ask the question.

If she's legally carrying, then she won't have anything to fear from the state. However, since you didn't mention which department she works for, II cannot be sure if they have regs regarding this. Most likely they do though and violations of them (if she's caught) could cost her her job...not to mention potential federal charges. She should have access to some sort of regulation handbook that will clarify this. Personally, I'd risk it, but that doesn't mean she should

Nevermind...missed the part about the USAF. Probably not, but yeah check with the local SF and ask them

Shes traveling 3 hours away into an "inner city" setting and will be there for 3 days. I am really not comfortable with her traveling that far away and being put into that setting without her weapon. Thank you for your response. I will contact the MP's and see what they say.

Since she's not crossing state lines there is no conflict with federal law and she has her CC license so she's good with the state law. The only potential problem could be the policy of the base commander. I hope policies go her way and she has an unremarkable trip.

You might consider the possibility of her taking a vehicle of yours. This would eliminate the govt. vehicle question all together and she might be able to claim a mileage reimbursement.

Please let us know what you find out. This is a great question not only for civil servants but govt. contractors as well.

Thank you, if it were me I would risk it... I would rather be caught with it than without it!! But, unfortunatley I don't think that she is as willing as I..

We considered that. They insisted that she take their vehicle. Plus they are only willing to pay $00.19 per mile... If she drives their vehicle they cover the total fuel cost .

Posessing/transporting a Privately Owned weapon in a Goverment vehicle is against regulation.

+1.....
Also, OHIO's CCW law applies here too, and it prohibits carry in an employers vehicle if that employer does not allow it.... So that is two strikes against her carrying in this situation...

Now, what would I personally do in this situation? I would stop by my house on the way to where I was going and get that suitcase I forgot.........

Shall not be infringed is the superior law....

You need to contact the military police and ask the question.

That is the worst possible thing you could do.

Carry or don't but don't get your legal advice from a cop. if she is driving alone and not going from one installation to another she'd likely be OK (Don't get your legal advice from me either) but where will she keep the gun while going onto the installation?

Need more information for a difinitive answer.
