Carrying in Banks and Churches.

In Mississippi we have an enhanced endorsement allowing for carry in most places restricted with the standard license. With the enhanced the only places off limits are police stations, jails, and places of nuisance like a bar. You can legally carry any place else but you are still required to comply with the person(s) in control of the property if they ask you to leave or not carry there. So if you are in a church you are not breaking the law by carrying but if one of the leaders of the church knows you are and asks you to leave or not carry and you don't comply you can be charged with trespassing.

Surprisingly the endorsement is fairly easy to get. I just went today for mine. I had to take a NRA course on basic handgun safety and use. We had a class room portion and had to shoot 3 targets with 12 shots at approximately 5', 10', and 15'. Of the 8 people in the class no one failed to qualify their first try.

This "General Rule" I have never heard of before. No guns in a sanctuary!

"Rule of thumb" as a phrase predates all such known references, in any case. The "rule of thumb" was used for measurements in many different fields, from brewing to money-changing to art.

And pray tell why would guns not belong????
What about the New Life Church in Colorado Springs where four were injured 2 were killed before he was killed by security.
Should people have let him continue killed because someone thought there was a rule?
Maybe you should rethink this.

I'm certainly not going to stop carrying, simply because I entered a church . . . then again, I'm not welcome in my church because their beliefs and mine clash. I was brought up to believe the church was a sanctuary and your guns were to left outside. It was also a small town and even today, you won't find much in the area of serious crime.

I open carry every time I go into the bank. It's perfectly legal in Washington and no bank employee has ever freaked out. Church I conceal carry. Criminals tend to not respect "sanctuaries".

Texas allows concealed carry in churches, hospitals, and nursing homes "unless legally posted", OR as in any location unless verbally notified by someone in authority on those premises. I have yet to see a Texas church that is posted ...but many hospitals are. I haven't been in a bank in years so can't say what is normal in Texas there ...I do my banking by internet.

Here the State decides where it is legal to carry. The signs serve only one purpose, to show me where NOT to spend my money. Whether or not I had a gun on me I would not leave a dime in an establishment that was openly against any portion of the Constitution. If my church did not trust me with a pistol I would figure I had poorly chosen my house of worship. If I lived in a State where it was illegal to carry inside a bank I would find a bank with a drive up window.

Bank of America just told McMillan Firearms they no longer wanted their business due to their moving into the gun business rather than the gun parts business. Guess I use Amex from here on out.

Banks are not CPZs in Ohio, unless posted. At least in the Cleveland area, the VAST majority of them are NOT posted.

Never go into the bank anymore, I conceal carry at church. I have opened carried in church, wife didn't approve to much of that.

The Texas CHL law prohibits carry in schools, churches, hospitals and government buildings, regardless of signage. Check your local laws

Maybe you should check your own local laws before posting, FFLMike? Hospitals, amusement parks, churches, and government buildings not used for court proceedings must be posted with 30.06 signs to prohibit firearms:

Texas Penal Code:
Sec. 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER.
(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's person:
(4) on the premises of a hospital licensed under Chapter 241, Health and Safety Code, or on the premises of a nursing home licensed under Chapter 242, Health and Safety Code, unless the license holder has written authorization of the hospital or nursing home administration, as appropriate;
(5) in an amusement park; or
(6) on the premises of a church, synagogue, or other established place of religious worship.
(c) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, at any meeting of a governmental entity.
(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.

Unless it's illegal in your state, why not? You're carrying concealed anyways. There have been a few church shootings that should encourage you to carry. As far as bank, carry, their feelings be damned.

FFLMike - as pointed out you are in error - but a little more concerning is that you work in a gun store and are an FFL...!! If you are in the business you need to be providing accurate information.

See if your state lawfully upholds "no guns" signs and if not you won't be illegally carrying. The only thing they can do IF they notice your gun is to ask you to leave and of course you must comply. You can return in most cases w/o firearm. The nice thing about CCW is no one knows you are carrying to begin with. Banks are private corporations not federal just like any other business so don't worry about it just don't advertise.

The three biggest sources of misinformation about firearms laws continues to be proven to be LEO, gun shop employees, and CCW instructors....

Seems strange that a state law can make it NOT legal to carry on private property i.e., church. I would think that as long as the pastor was OK with it that would be good enough.
How is law enforcement going to enforce it if that are not invited onto private property?

Where do you live? It's not against the law in MANY states to carry in Banks or Churches. In most states no gun signs do NOT have force of law either.

Here in Wyoming you may carry into a bank openly, but conceal carry is not legal. You may carry into a church openly, but concealed only with written permission from the church administrator (or Pastor).
