Carrying in a bank?

Does SC have any laws against carrying a concealed weapon in a bank? If not, how do you check to see if there are any local ordinances against it?

With the way things are going with our financial system, it should be mandatory!
If only to make sure the Bank hasn't ripped you off of your life savings!

Very illegal. Covered in CWP course.

It must be state specific. Here is WV's code. No mention of a bank being off limits. If its posted with a sign which I have not seen a one, they don't hold the force of law.

I've found most of those CWP teachers assume way too much. I was told it was illegal in my class too. However I just called SLED and got it confirmed from 2 individuals that it is only illegal in federal, state, and county banks. Any private banks like BOA, SunTrust, TD Bank it is legal to carry unless they have a legal sign saying otherwise.

I can see the federal reserve but state or county banks? Not sure I've seen a State bank of WV or State bank of New York for that matter. Other than credit unions (which are set up by states for their employees)and the reserve, I thought all remaining banks were privatized.

The three biggest sources of misinformation regarding firearms laws continue to prove themselves to be CCW Instructors, Law Enforcement Officers, and gun shop employees.

There is no need to check to see if there are any local ordinances against it in South Carolina:

LOCAL REGULATIONS
SECTION 23-31-510. Prohibition against regulation of certain matters.
No governing body of any county, municipality, or other political subdivision in this State may enact or promulgate any regulation or ordinance which regulates or attempts to regulate the transfer, ownership, possession, carrying, or transportation of firearms, ammunition, components of firearms, or any combination of these things.

Greenville has several county banks.

Well geez, that's awfully disappointing that the government required, rights infringing training would provide inaccurate information to it's victims... I mean students.

One must be careful to differentiate between a bank owned and operated by a county government (which I seriously doubt there are any) and a private bank with just the name of the county in it's name with no connection to the county government at all.

For example, First National Bank, First American Bank, American National Bank, and Navy Federal Credit Union are not owned or operated by any Nation, America, branch of the American government, or the Navy.

Oh I was referring to a bank in Greenville called "County Bank". I thought that was what she was referring to. But we have a federal credit union that my truck is financed through, and if she is correct then that's one of the type banks you can't carry in. I'm going to read through the laws right now though and see if there is any law backing up her claims.

I know of six "gun-buster" bank branches in a North Central WV city that have been robbed in the past decade - some locations more than once. There is one other bank with locations very near the ones that were robbed. Its branches have not been robbed once. They do not post a "gun-busters" sign. Go figure.

My FORMER bank was posted. The new one is not and is more customer-friendly to boot.
