What state are we talking about? Exactly what paperwork are you talking about? Are you carrying the firearm loaded or unloaded? Concealed on the person? Concealed in the vehicle? Locked in a case? The question is not nearly specific enough to allow any kind of accurate answer.

For example, in Washington State I can have an unloaded firearm anywhere in the vehicle except concealed on my person. In order to conceal the firearm on my person or have a loaded handgun in the vehicle, I need a Concealed Pistol License to be legal. Carrying the firearm without the CPL (when it is required) is a misdemeanor in Washington State (RCW 9.41.050).

If you are talking about carrying a firearm in a vehicle in Missouri:

"In addition to the concealed carry endorsement discussed above, Missouri
now permits any person who is at least 21 years old to transport a concealable
firearm in the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle. No concealed carry
endorsement is required. Under the old law, the peaceable journey exception to
the unlawful-use-of-a-weapon law permitted travelers on a continuous peaceable
journey to carry a concealed weapon. The peaceable journey exception is still
in the law, and may apply in circumstances where the new law does not (i.e. if
the person is less than 21 years old)."

and

"Q: Does a person carrying a weapon in a vehicle also
have to have a permit for the gun?
A: No. A weapon may be carried anywhere in a vehicle, even
concealed on the person, under the vehicle exception."

I don't know how accurate the above statements are, but they are from the Missouri Highway Patrol pamphlet.

Hey Ruger: Let me ask you a question. What do YOU think should happen? You violated the most basic responsibilty you have for being given the permission to CC. I am sure the penalties vary by state (try looking them up and doing some homework) and I am sure there is a degree of discretion that the LEO probably has regarding confiscation via onsite substantiation via computer, if such records are available, and how he judges you on the spot.

In Wisconsin you could be charged with felony possession. The cops have a lot of discretion allowed to them here. That would be obvious to you if you watch our news though.

Look up your State Law concerning your question. IF you're licensed, you should be fully cognizant of ALL applicable Laws concerning having a weapon upon your person. You gotta do the work here Bud!

Maybe I misunderstood the question but I took it to mean carrying a firearm that he bought from the paper or something (private party non-registered) not about ccw paperwork. So rugar what did you mean?

I sure would not want to chance it. Not in St. Louis or anyplace else. I do not know the law but sound risky to me.

General....."Prepare to initiate procedure one, Isolate,...Lubricate,...Extricate!..........Belay that procedure!! Sorry, that's how I picked up that scocialite in the bar last night."

General....."On my mark,... Deceive,... Inveigle,... Obfusgate,... MARK!!!"

1. There is no reason to carry your receipt that shows you paid for the gun. Keep it safe at home. If your firearm is ever confiscated for some reason, the police may ask you to show the receipt to get it back. If you don't have the receipt, you might be required to go to court for an order to the police to return your firearm. Carrying the receipt does NOTHING but increase the chances of it getting lost, stolen or washed.

2. Carrying a concealed firearm without also carrying your concealed carry endorsement subjects you to a non-criminal infraction with a fine of $35 in Missouri:

Duty to carry and display endorsement, penalty for violation--director of revenue immunity from liability, when.

571.121. 1. Any person issued a concealed carry endorsement pursuant to sections 571.101 to 571.121 shall carry the concealed carry endorsement at all times the person is carrying a concealed firearm and shall display the concealed carry endorsement upon the request of any peace officer. Failure to comply with this subsection shall not be a criminal offense but the concealed carry endorsement holder may be issued a citation for an amount not to exceed thirty-five dollars.

It looks like it would cost $10 to get a replacement Concealed Carry Endorsement.

If the firearm is confiscated form you then the LE knows whom it was taken from thus who to return it to. You do not have to PROVE you own it they have to prove you do not. This is America our system says the accuser has to prove GUILT...

You need to read what I wrote more carefully and fully. Notice these words is my post:

"If your firearm is ever confiscated for some reason, the police may ask you to show the receipt to get it back. If you don't have the receipt, you might be required to go to court for an order to the police to return your firearm."

You do understand that not all police departments operate fully under the limitations of the 4th Amendment to the US Constitution, right? There has been at least one case in Washington state that I am aware of where the police department refused to return a firearm to the owner they received it from because the owner had no proof of ownership of that firearm. The person had to petition the court for an order to the police department to return the firearm to them, which the court granted, and only then did the police department reluctantly return the firearm to the owner after the owner submitted to background checks. Carrying the receipt on your person with the firearm does NOTHING to alleviate this problem, because the police department is unconstitutionally requiring proof of ownership at the time of retrieval.

I'm not saying whether it's right or wrong. Just saying how some police departments operate. I have no receipts for any of my firearms.

As others have said, it depends of the state. Learn the laws of the state you are carrying in.
Here in Colorado, nothing would happen. Concealed Carry in your vehicle without a permit is allowed here.

Ruger, first how and where did you get your ccw permit? If it was through a class where you had to sit in, they should have told you all the info you require and since you’re asking this question I would surmise that you obtained your ccw permit through a on line class, never a good choice, I don’t trust these paper mills, you answer a few questions and give them your money a poof you’ve got a ccw permit. If your smart enough to ask the question, I’ll bet you already have a gut feeling as to the correct answer. If you have a ccw you have to have the permit on you at all times. Just obtain a duplicate permit card and your golden.
