Carry/Transport Info

Hi;
I have a Florida resident carry permit and non-resident permits in NH and ME. I will be driving to Boston where I have an appointment to complete my non-resident interview for that state. In looking at different NRA information it appears that I cannot or better put should not transport a handgun, even under the federal guidelines through NJ and NY. I have done so before but am not unsure as I don't need the obvious problems.

Any advice from NJ & NY residents is wecomed.

I have also traveled through NY before on my way to ME and have transported a gun according to federal guidlelines. I did not think that the state requirements could be more restrictive than the federal when it comes to transportation, but then I live in a state with a pretty CC friendly stance.

NYC does not respect federal guidelines(FOPA), but the state of NY should be fine as long as the gun is unloaded and seperated from the ammo. Make sure the mags are not loaded either, a big no no. The quickest route will put you going across the George Washington Bridge into Manhattan(NYC), so I would recommend continuing north in NJ and crossing the Tappan Zee bridge into NY State.

Have a safe trip

I usually place the loaded mag ankswith the ammo separate from the gun. Is this a no-no?

Thanks,

Neal

As far as i remember New York looks at a loaded mag as a loaded gun seperated or not. When I travel through there I seperate the ammon from the mag and have a breach cable lock on it. That way if they want to be real pricks about it I can contend that even if i could load a mag with ammo I owuld have to unlock the cable to engage the mag.
