I am looking at 2 new side arms and was curious if anyone has any opinions/comments. The new S&W ported Shield and the Springfield XDS. All replies are appreciated.

Thanks

The ported S&W M&P Shield 9 just came out at Shot Show. I would wait and see for actual user reports. From what I have heard, it is shooting significantly softer than the non-ported version. The trigger is apparently better as well. The ports will reduce bullet velocity, i.e., ballistic performance will be less than from a 3" barrel. I personally don't care for the slanted fiber sights it comes with. I also don't care for the thumb safety. In general, the standard S&W M&P Shield 9 has a solid track record in terms of reliability.

I have the Springfield XDS and I love it. I am a small female and I am comfortable with it. I really love the sights on it, too; its quick and easy to get your sight picture. By the way, I will be 63 in April and wear glasses - that sight picture is really important. I also have the S&W 380 Body Guard. I hate the sights on it, but it is made for intuitive or instinctive close range shooting. The trigger pull is heavier than what I like, but that is the case with tools that have safety tabs not really intended for use. A holstered gun is a safe gun.
