Carry Philosophy Question

Hey folks. I'm a working musician with my CCW. I haven't played live in several years, and back then I never owned a gun. I have my feelings on this subject, but I wanted to tap the brain trust here for your thoughts on this question...should I carry on a gig? Some venues have signs prohibiting handguns (so we'll exclude those), but most don't. As a patron, it's not an issue. It's legal. The issue is as a performer at these places. I'm trying to figure out how to handle this. The truth is, when I play drums, I can't have anything on my person. I usually throw my keys, wallet, etc. in my road bag and our road guy holds on to it. What do I do with my piece? There's a bunch of obvious problems laying it around my feet. Torso-type holsters are a non-starter because I almost always play in jeans and a t-shirt. Like I said, I already have some thoughts of my own, but I'd like to see what all of you all chime in with. Just for fun, but I'll take whatever advice anyone has to give. aaaaand....go!

Assuming carrying is legal, you just have to decide how important it is to you to carry while performing. If it is important, you can find a way to do it.

If you wear jeans and a T-shirt, you can put a sub-compact gun in a ankle holster, or you can wear a longer shirt and carry inside your waistband. Pocket carry is also an option depending on how your jeans are. You can also buy an under-shirt that has a built in holster on it. All you do is wear it under your regular shirt. I think Under Armour makes one.

I dont recommend leaving your gun somewhere away from you.

Good start and good info. I'm kind of down on wearing 2 shirts onstage just due to heat. If you've never been on stage...it's HOT. Mostly for a drummer who's stationary and also moving a bunch. I agree on not having it away from me. Too many issues there. Good start to the discussion, and thanks for chiming in! I'm sure other people in other walks of life have similar concerns.

I was thinking ankle holster too. I don't like them for myself but it might be a good choice under the circumstances.
Depends on the weapon too - I carry a full size PX4, and that can complicate some options.

One thing to keep in mind with an ankle rig is accessability. It may not be a problem seated at the drums. My preferred carry rig is IWB/tuckable middle/small of back. Just my $.02.

Velcro is your friend...Cloth holster and Velcro to seat, side of drum, mike stand...

I'm sure you can find a place that only you can have access.

Have a few friends in Country music in Nashville and I know they carry onstage all the time...

I'm a studio guy in Nashville. Carry all the time. IWB at the 5:00 position. This would work for you I think; drummers are typically back behind everyone, sometimes against or close to the back wall. A shirt that covers the top of your carry weapon and you're gtg...?
