Carry gun for my wife

Recently my wife and I got our carry permits. My wife has a SW model 60 pro series .357 mag that she loves; however, she doe not want to carry it in her purse due to weight of the gun. She wants to buy another gun to carry. She likes the sig p238 but doesn't really like the .380 cal. She would like a 9mm. We have been waiting for the p938 to come to our local gun shop but they will not be getting one any time soon; and we are tired of waiting for this gun. What would be some of good guns for her to look at and try?

Your going to get recommendations across the board, have her find what fits her best. My wife couldn't find a 9mm that fit her small hands, so she got a .380., however she did shoot the Taurus 709 pretty well, but felt it was to heavy for her to want to carry.

Had a similar situation, my wife ended up with the P238. I loved it so much, I got one for myself as a back-up gun.

Best thing you can do is have her go to the store and try em all out. Put them in her hand and find out what she likes.

the .380 was a cute fad, get back to business, like Springfield says. Get a her one of these bad boys.
.45 ACP 2 shots will get her out of situation she finds herself in.

First step is taking her to a good gun shop and/or large gun show so she can handle a LOT of different guns. The one that "fits" and feels right TO HER is the one to go rent or borrow. If there are several that feel right to her, have her rent or borrow all of them at different times. Then let her SHOOT those guns as much as she wants. That's the only way she's going to find the one that is right for her hands, body and level of comfort.

Expect that to change as she gets into training and carrying, of course. But that first gun is very, very important. It has to be comfortable enough and FIT her hand so she will want to train/practice with it.

For pity sake don't hand her a .45 snubby revolver or the twofer for the first gun. Good grief.

I started out many years ago with a .32 revolver, spent many years carrying a .357m, went to an XD .45 compact, and the last few years am back to carrying the .357 (with 38+P JHP loaded). Just recently I bought an XD 9mm compact to carry, especially when I need to conceal. I practice with all of them.

Taurus "Slim" series PT-709
My wife checked out a bunch at a local gun show and she liked the weight and the way it felt in her hand.

If she likes 1911 style guns look at the Springfield Armory EMP

I too, own a S&W M60 .357 mag, 3 inch barrel. I love this gun, but it can be a little heavy for conceal carry. I now carry and own the Ruger LCR. I have 2 of them, one in .38+P and another in .357 mag. The .357 is a bit heavier and you can get some very good performing ammo in .38 +P. So you may want to consider the LCR in .38+P. Nice light weight revolver and easy to conceal.

OK,, seems to me , the never ending journey ..

got the Ruger LCP ,, did not like the trigger ,, son got that one

got a Sig P238 to replace the LCP , really like the gun,, great IMO.. but it is a 380

SO
picked up an other Glock,, G26 , ok with a mag extender .. sits in my bedroom , beside the night stand with a crimson trace on it ... I like Glocks

got a Kimber Solo,, which is in Yonkers getting repaired ( 5 th trip to NY ) not sure if I will trade in when it gets back, really like the Solo, but it does not go bang , every time it needs to go bang.

picked up an other Sig , P938 , like the 238 only with a little more boom ..

would really like the Solo to go bang,,, got extra mags, custom leather holster.. the whole deal,

back to the original question...

to me ,, the Solo , if it would only go bang .. a BIG IF ..

next the Sig P938 ,

then the Sig P 238 ..

but this is just me...
