Carry Concealed at place of employment

I work for a small mechanical contracting business and know the owners very well. They have given me permission to and would like me to carry when in the office. I currently am restricted to target/hunting but am taking numerous steps to get those restrictions removed in the future. That being said, my questions are as follows:

1. Once/if my restrictions are removed, can I legally carry while in the office by just having owner permission or do I have to apply for business carry (on top of my unrestricted).

2. Also, if traveling to a job site (not governmental or educational building), do I then also need permission to carry on that site as well, or is the permission from my owner considered permission?

Any additional information that you can supply on business carry is greatly appreciated. Again, I am currently restricted, but I have already obtained my pistol permit for PA so that I can carry in PA where my family members live, and I am also taking an Intro to concealed carry class coming up in november. I hope these will help in getting my restrictions removed.
 
New York never ceases to amaze me. I think the very bewilderment at complicated gun laws is meant to be an indirect form of gun control.

Sorry srbecker...not a slam on you...just a sad commentary about the state you live in.
 
with a PA CCW permit there are many states that have repository with PA call the SHERIFF department in the issuing county and they can/will answer your question

NO KIDDING! NYS sucks, but I have a great job, great wife, and all my family lives here other than some cousins in PA, so I find it very hard to leave at this point in my life. I do HATE the gun laws, tax, laws, and 80% of the other laws and regulations here though :( Stuck between a rock and a hard place....
 
Holy Crap. I read this, as a PA resident, and didn't first look to see you are in New York. My bad on that score. Its pitiful that New York makes you jump through so many hoops in order to place you in a position to protect yourself and others at work. Good luck, and I hope you do carry through with all the requirements necessary to get an unlimited license to carry firearms.
 
I would imagine that if you can get the restrictions removed & carry on the job, but not as a condition of employment, that you are carrying for self defense & would be able to w/o jumping thru more hoops. Also, unless restricted by the license, an otherwise prohibited place (like potentially a school or the like) or if no carry signs have the weight of law in your area, you wouldn't need to ask permission, there. In fact, it could cause more problems to ask. I use the logic that what 'they' don't know won't hurt me. In all likelihood, they won't know I'm carrying unless I need it. I'll deal w/ their displeasure after the fact, then.
That being said, it seems like common sense, but I know that is lacking in a lot of places, now.
 
Unfortunately, I live in NY. I’m no expert, but I had the same situation over 20 years ago. So my experience might be out of date. Not all counties have the same restrictions. I first got my permit in Erie county. Like yours, it was restricted to target and hunting. So I always carried my target shooting gear. Strangely enough; I was always on my way to or from target shooting! Later, I had my employer draft a letter stating they wanted me to carry at work for security reasons. I took that to the count clerk/permit dept. They changed my permit by adding business security to it. It was still restricted, but covered most of the time I carried. I don’t know about other job sites, but I still carried. After all, if your responsible about carrying: what are you expected to do with your weapon? Leave it in your desk, or car? Not very secure or responsible. Years later I moved to another county. They observed no restrictions. Either you had a permit or you didn’t. They removed all my restrictions. I had to transfer the records from one county to another for that to work. Being a NYS permit, the transfer is not mandatory, only the address change is. But it served my purposes. Several years later , I moved back to Erie. Many years passed and I finally transferred my records back to Erie county. Reason being; to make any changes to my permit, I had to drive to the county my records were in. Anyway, in Erie county if you transfer records and it comes in unrestricted it goes out the same way. It is my understanding there are some easier ways to have those ridiculous restrictions removed. The only area in NY more anal than Erie county is NYC! They can keep their rotten Apple!

Regarding the OP... you can carry at the employer location on his permission but carrying elsewhere for business is not the employer's decision. Carrying outside of the restrictions is not a crime, its an administrative thing. PL S265.20(3) exempts you from criminal charges because you have a permit, even when carrying outside of restrictions. I agree with the post above. Have your employer give you a letter and file the amendment to allow business carry.
