I am currently toying with the idea of becoming a LEO. I do not have any military background but I am an avoid CCer. I was wanting to know any pro's and con's that like minded people had. And maybe get some advise on what to expect in doing this.

Well alot of departments are requiring college now I just completed my degree in justice and public safety apply at several departments not just one depending on the size of the department it could take a while to hear back luckily I got a small town and my wifes uncle happens to be sheriff. start running doing push ups and working on cardio the pd or so will not care if u have a cc permit it makes no difference to them u still have to do qualifications threw there department hope this helped

What does being an "avid CC'r" have to do w/ becoming a cop ?
Good question, I was wondering the same. My next question is why would you want to get advise on a career? That is solely up to you. Some love the law enforcement and others don't. If you are interested in becoming a LEO maybe start out as a reserve officer, at least then your not in a contract if you decide its not for you. Good luck in whatever you decide.

i know i wouldn't want to be a cop esp in a large city.... upholding draconian laws and serving the tyrannical government rather than protecting and serving the citizens like they should be doing

Thanks for the feedback zacklmpd. I was hoping to get comments and tips from current or retired LEO's to get started. And I said I an an avid CCer so maybe you could understand I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to firearms. Anyway thanks for the tips. I only need a few more college hrs to be considered for our local PD.

I have been a LEO for 10 years and love it, it is a great field, as long as mentally you can turn off the negative things people say.... If you don't know already there are people out there that can not stand the profession. Just go out day in and day out and do the job to the best of your ability and forget the rest of the not important.

You will be a family of blue brothers and it's a great feeling, just do what you know is morally right and protect and serve the citizens of the community you serve, and you will have a rewarding career.

Good luck, and stay safe out there !!

I wish that statement were true...not to you specifically, but in a general sense...we all have stories of avid shooters who should probably not carry, but that's not up to me. :-)
