Is it just me, or does anyone else get bothered by this? My local Subaru dealer advertises they will donate $250 to the local charity of your choice when you buy a new Subaru. I just saw a Mazda commercial stating the Mazda will donate $150 to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital. There are probably others that I haven't seen.
.
It appears to me that I will be overpaying by $250 if I buy that Subaru or $150 on a Mazda. Then those companies get to claim they provide millions of dollars supporting charities. I pay the extra money, while they take the credit and get the tax deductions. How about just cut the prices by $250 and $150, and I'll decide my own charities. Maybe I'd rather give that $250 to the 2nd Amendment Foundation, eh? Or maybe, I'd rather just buy gasoline.

Am I too cynical?
