Taking ccw class this weekend. Woot woot.

I can only hope that your instructor is as competent and comprehensive as the Deputy Sheriff in Dorchester County, SC, who taught my CCWP class, and is not an excuse for an instructor that was recently revealed in SC. If you do not leave your class with a real appreciation of what your firearm is all about, what the laws of your state are all about, what the fundamental safety rules of gun ownership and gun control are all about, and if you have not demonstrated all of this in a written test and on a live fire range in front of the instructor and/or his assistants, you may get a CCWP but, IMO, you have been deprived of what you deserve. Enjoy the experience--I found it to be a fun and great learning experience particularly having an instructor who showed us how he handles his firearm and went thru the ins and outs of the SC Code of Laws regulating firearms and self defense.

Thanks for the info. I've already read a lot of the laws regarding carrying and when and when not to shoot but yes I hope to learn a lot more.

What is the story of the instructor in SC?

Cutting to the chase, the instructor took money from his "students" and shortcircuited the course content and its intent--essentially giving them very little for their money other than getting them their CCWPs without taking the course. He has been indicted on perjury charges from the state for signing off on the students' permits by lying about the course content they received. I believe the students will have their CCWPs revoked and they probably could sue for their money back.
I believe this forum or Defensive Carry Forum have specific threads on the case if you use the "search" option

It was a great class. Very long day and very informative. Almost changed my mind on getting the permit, but I have always had the "be prepared" mentality so I went ahead and got it. Now the decision of what to carry.
