So my son who is at Fort Lee just talked to the wife and in April when AIT is done he has his orders that he will be going to Camp Casey south Korea. Im asking on here any advice, how things are over there and just general information anyone may have? He will be with the 2nd Division. Thanks everyone.

Korea is a bit tense. When I was there we were preparing for a million soldiers to cross the border. Thats what lunatic leaders threaten.

First General Order
The mission is clear, carry out your orders to prevent the tyranny that threatens the South from its Northern cousins!
Second General Order
When in "Rome"...

Camp Casey is north of Seoul. Don't go there with an attitude. Learn the culture. He'll enjoy it better. South Korea has a lot to do, if he has the time. The MWR always has something on the weekends, trips, hiking, snowboarding, skiing, check there schedule. He'll be surprise how somethings are more modern than the States. Public transportation is great, once you learn it. They have public bus, trains, subways and bullet train. He may have to get use to the smell of kimchee. LOL. He will, after a few trips to the local restaurants. Also great shopping and tailor shops all over the place. The Army Camps have facebook pages check those out too.
Check out this website of old and new pictures, of different camps/bases there. Camp Casey Korea
Good Luck...Hope he enjoys it there. Don't be a barracks rat.

Thanks thats what I was looking for and have been looking at the sites and pictures on line, he thinks it may just be a temp. Position I have no idea. I know its a posting camp for the division and curious if thats why he is going there or is it the possibility of what the North just admitted today about the nuke tests. Not sure just want him to enjoy himself and life hes 19 graduated Benning in Nov. And has been at Lee since and he actually enjoyed Benning more then Lee so far. Thank You again would and always willing to hear some advice.

no worries. United States Forces Korea, Link Removed The manipulating news media makes it sound much bigger than it really is...it's not. South korea is in charge of securing there borders and country. From time to time the bases will be put on alerts, mostly an exercise. Most of the old camps and bases are closing down. Everything is moving to Camp Humpreys, eventually. A lot of ex-patriates live there, mostly military veterans.

I didn't serve in Korea but brother did at Casey and he always talks about how wet it is in monsoon season and how cold it is in winter.

Also, tell him to keep it in his pants, apparently being "rodded" with a long Q-Tip hurts bad. Sis-in-law saw his medical records when he returned and you'd have thought WW3 had kicked off.

I enjoyed my time at Camp Carroll in Taegu, South Korea. Lots of stuff to do. Osan Air Base had an excellent buffet on the weekends. Lots of shopping and the open markets were a lot of fun. Learn the culture and respect the locals as with every post assignment and he should do fine.

I can't tell you a thing about it now. Last time I was there was in 1961. At that time there was only one paved road North of Oui Jong Bu...
