I watched the CBS evening news tonight 02/06/2013 and in California the police were going to peoples homes and taking their fire arms. It did not show anyone being taken off in hand cuffs. Are they just hunting for firearms that are banned in California? I saw a group of what looked like AKs and ARs on a table as an example of what they have gotten. They implied there were 40,000 firearms that people had to be removed. Anyone know what the facts are?

They are removing firearms owned by prohibited persons. Felons and people who have been declared mentally incompetent.

If they are really felons why are they not arresting them? Hard for me to believe they have so many felons and declared mentally incompetent having so many firearms there. Where did you get this information?

Most of them probably had a prescription for Prozac or Xanax in the past 15 years, so their guns were confiscated. That is the scary part of connecting mental health to NICS.

I found the article. Looks like it's already posted above. Gun registration indeed led to confiscation for thousands, although they were not supposed to have guns. It is still scary.

This is a trial balloon sent up to see if folks are going to resist gun confiscation or if they will just kneel before King Obama's gun control decree.

According to the article, California has been seizing guns from felons since at the least the Bush years. The question I have is why haven't they been doing this longer? Haven't convicted felons been forbidden to own firearms for a lot longer than that?

They picked a horrible state to test this in...did they expect anything different in California? Let them try that in Utah, Texas, Oregon, or Washington...so many better states to attempt this ******** in.

That is the salient question here. If these really are felons, then they have committed another felony. They should be cuffed and on their way to the hoosegow. Why is this not mentioned or shown?

I saw a video on Anderson Cooper concerning this and they did take away the one's who were felons, that had guns in handcufs. THese people were given a written warning that they were in violation of the law for various legal reasons in Ca and they were given a period of time to turn in their weapons, those who didn't the cops went to their homes and took their guns and also arrested those who weren't allowed to have a gun by law, be it a felon or someone who has been deamed mentaly unfit to have a gun.

It's likely something more than just felons.

Maybe they are convicted felons POST purchase of firearm.

Because it was the gun's fault. "I don't know how that got there. I never seen that before"

6 Year Trial?

They have been doing this for 6 years and it is a "trial balloon", I don't think so. More likely a state operation that is getting media attention due to its support of the current polictical agenda and the media support of that agenda.
Letting the public know who out there has guns that aren't supposed to be in possesssion of them as an example of how the system is flawed. Flawed is a good word if they took 2033 guns last year and an average of 3000 names get added each year. Seems they need to adjust the system and tighten enforcement of the system along with the collection program. IMO

Looking for former LA police officer nut job killing there now, I carry under the 2nd Amendment and constitution which allows me to protect myself from a DOMESTIC enemy.
