Haven't had a 22 in decades, what brand of 22lr do you guys use. Not looking for high price target ammo just a good consistent shell that the wife and I can use at our clubs indoor range. The sr22 looks to be some what similar to my sr9c and cw9 which are my cc so looking for a good dependable 22lr shell to practice with. All help appreciated.

Recommend you try CCI .22LR. Cost a little more than the usual big box store brands, but I think you will like it. Some of the brands like Remington, Western, Federal, etc. are what we call dirty ammo. You have a lot of hang-ups and failure to eject, causing jams. CCI are suppose to be very good ammo.

If you can find some CCI Blazer, try them. I have a Walther p-22 & it eats them up.
Rem & Win not so much.

The only ammo I could find was Thunderbolts and I fired 150 rounds in my new SR22P. I picked up some M-22 (Winchester) and fired 50 rounds having no failures using both ammo. Clean the SR22 very well and lightly lube before firing. Do not limp wrist. Good luck finding .22 ammo. Use ONLY .22 Long Rifle ammo.

Why are manufacturers pushing 22lr pistols and rifles so much when there is NO ammo to be had? I have it on reliable information that 22lr won't be available on a regular basis and at a fair price for at least 2 or 3 years (2016 or 2017). I have decided not to shoot or compete with 22lr firearms until then as I must conserve ammo. When I get down to a few thousand rounds of something I stop shooting it unless it is an emergency. I can no longer find 45-70 or 45LC at reasonable prices either. I think it is time to start invoking the anti-gouging laws in some states.

I shoot Federal 36gr copper jacket HP bulk rounds and my SR22 has never had a malfunction of any kind. Now, my 10/22, that's a different story altogether. Lots of stovepipes with that particular ammo. Always goes bang, but doesn't reliably eject 100% of the time in my rifle. Again, SR22, haven't had a single issue.

At this point grab whatever you can find. If that happens to be CCI so much the better. Be careful with Thunderbolt, it will lead the barrel if you rapid fire. At least it did with my SR22.

After some initial break-in period, my Ruger SR22 pistol shoots pretty much everything. At this point, I do grab whatever I can find. I just scored 200 rounds of Thunderbolt on Tuesday at my local Academy Sports and Outdoors for $10.01, including sales tax. I always clean the gun after shooting.

Possibly because people aren't buying pistols and rifles in a round that isn't very much available.

If you have "on reliable information", could you please share with us this information you have so we too could be as informed.

I like the CCI Mini Mags. I have never had problems with it and I have with other brands. I completely stay away from Remington rounds even if someone gives them to me. I've had way to many problems with Remington to ever consider giving them money for their .22LR rounds.

I concur with the CCI Blazers. Put a ton through my Mossberg Plinkster.

People buy large numbers of .22 rifles and pistols so manufacturers respond by offering more models in those calibers. Basic economics.

If buyers think the prices are too high, the guns aren't sold and the prices go down. The prices stay high with high demand. Economic strikes again.

And do you really think ammo makers aren't trying to keep up with demand? That'd be pretty dumb because there's profit to be had. People stockpile ammo and guns during and after a supply shortage. Read up on Econ - no conspiracy, just economics and government interference screwing it all up.

CCI mini mags are really the only way to go. you need the high velocity loads to run the 22 lr pistols reliably.
